Golf Club Padova is one of the most established golf clubs in northern Italy and a course we think works brilliantly as part of a golf holiday in Veneto. Set at the foot of the Euganean Hills near Galzignano Terme, the club combines mature parkland golf with beautiful countryside, excellent clubhouse facilities and easy access to the thermal towns of Abano and Montegrotto.

Founded in 1962, Golf Club Padova now offers 27 holes split across three separate nine-hole loops – Yellow, Blue and Red – giving golfers plenty of variety during a stay. The original Yellow and Blue courses were designed by English architect John Harris, while the newer Red Course was designed by Marco Croze and opened later to expand the club to its current 27-hole layout.

The Yellow and Blue loops can be combined to create the traditional 18-hole, par-72 course, while the Red Course gives you another championship-standard nine to mix into your rounds. We really like this format because it means repeat rounds do not have to feel repetitive, particularly if you are staying in the area for several nights.

The golf itself has a classic, mature parkland feel. Fairways run through thousands of established trees and shrubs, with lakes, water hazards and well-positioned bunkers constantly influencing how you approach each hole. The terrain is gently undulating rather than overly hilly, but there are enough changes in elevation and angles to make club selection important.

Accuracy tends to be more valuable than simply hitting the ball as far as possible. Trees can quickly block your route into the greens if you miss on the wrong side of a fairway, while the water hazards encourage you to think carefully about where you want to leave your next shot. It is enjoyable golf for higher handicappers from the appropriate tees, but there is enough strategy and trouble to keep lower-handicap players interested as well.

Another big attraction is the setting. The course sits within the Euganean Hills Regional Park and borders the historic Villa Barbarigo, creating a peaceful backdrop that feels a long way removed from busier Italian cities. After golf, the clubhouse is an excellent place to spend some time, with a restaurant and panoramic terrace overlooking the surrounding countryside.

Golfers can even stay directly at the club, with the Relais offering rooms within the clubhouse itself, alongside an outdoor swimming pool and other leisure facilities. Alternatively, the nearby spa towns of Abano Terme and Montegrotto Terme provide plenty of hotel options and make it easy to combine golf with thermal spas, Italian dining and sightseeing.
