Golf Club Molino del Pero is an attractive mountain-style course set among the Bolognese Apennines near Monzuno. Around 25 kilometres south of Bologna, its peaceful position combines woodland, rolling hills and views across the Savena Valley, offering a very different golfing experience from the flatter courses elsewhere in Emilia-Romagna.

The 18-hole, par-70 course measures approximately 5,450 metres and sits around 300 metres above sea level. Although relatively short by modern standards, it is a technical layout where changing elevations, sloping lies and small greens provide much of the challenge. Its sheltered setting and relatively low altitude allow golf to be played throughout much of the year.

The opening nine holes are shorter and feature regular climbs and descents, steep slopes and well-defended putting surfaces. The uphill first hole is one of the course’s best-known challenges, beginning in the Savena Valley and requiring golfers to play towards a green that remains hidden until the final approach. The back nine is generally longer and wider, although streams, ponds, trees, rough and out-of-bounds areas ensure that accurate positioning remains important.

Wide fairways provide some forgiveness from the tee, but the smaller greens can be difficult to find and leave demanding recovery shots when missed. This balance makes Molino del Pero enjoyable for improving players while still asking experienced golfers to think carefully about club selection and course management.

Practice facilities include a covered driving range, putting green and pitching green. Golf carts, clubs and trolleys can be hired, while the club also provides a pro shop and changing facilities. The characterful clubhouse occupies a converted hay barn with exposed oak beams and a large fireplace, while the restaurant is housed in the former grinding room and serves traditional regional food.
