Golf de la Forêt d'Orient

Troyes

average rating is 4 out of 5

Golf de la Forêt d’Orient is an attractive parkland course near Troyes, set within the protected surroundings of the Forêt d’Orient Regional Natural Park. Its peaceful location combines mature woodland, open countryside and natural ponds, creating a varied setting for golf in France’s Champagne region. The course is approximately 18 kilometres from Troyes and forms part of the wider Domaine de la Forêt d’Orient resort.

Designed by Jean-Manuel Rossi, the 18-hole course plays to a par of 71 and measures 6,232 metres. The layout crosses a mixture of wooded sections, open plains and waterside holes. Although much of the land is relatively flat, the routing includes gentle changes in elevation, strategically positioned bunkers and several water hazards that reward careful club selection.

The fairways generally provide enough room from the tee, making the course approachable for golfers of different abilities. However, trees can narrow the playing corridors on some holes, while ponds and streams place greater pressure on approach shots. Experienced golfers will need to think carefully about positioning rather than relying entirely on distance, particularly when playing towards greens protected by water or sand.

Golf de la Forêt d’Orient also offers a practice area that remains open throughout the day, together with a five-hole academy course. These facilities make the venue suitable for beginners, tuition sessions and golfers looking to warm up or sharpen their short game before playing the main course.

The neighbouring hotel, restaurant and spa make it easy to combine the course with an overnight golf break. Troyes can also be reached in around 20 minutes, giving visitors access to the city’s medieval centre, restaurants and Champagne-region attractions.

About The Area

Troyes is a brilliant choice for golfers who want a France golf holiday with Champagne-region charm, historic streets and relaxed countryside golf. Set in the Aube department, the city is famous for its colourful half-timbered houses, narrow medieval lanes, churches, museums, local food and factory outlet shopping, making it ideal for a golf break with plenty to enjoy away from the course.

The standout nearby course is Golf de Troyes La Cordelière, around Chaource. This 18-hole, par-72 course measures 5,896 metres and sits on the former estate of the Counts Chandon de Briailles, with gently undulating fairways, ponds, mature trees and a peaceful forest-edge setting. It is scenic, traditional and a lovely fit for golfers who enjoy classic French parkland golf.

For extra variety, Golf de Troyes l’Ermitage offers another 18-hole, par-72 option in the Aube region, set in a wooded and hilly landscape with lakes and rolling fairways. It is a useful second round for those building a fuller Troyes golf itinerary.

Away from golf, Troyes works beautifully for Champagne touring, local gastronomy, cycling, sightseeing and slow evenings in the old town. The wider Aube en Champagne region promotes timber-framed heritage, religious sites, walking and cycling routes, outlet shopping, Champagne and local produce, so there is plenty to build around your rounds.

For UK golfers, Troyes is ideal as part of a tailor-made northern France golf holiday, either on its own or combined with Champagne, Burgundy or a wider self-drive route. Hashtag Golf Travel can help shape the right courses, hotels and travel plan.
