Otepää Golf & Country Club

Otepää

average rating is 4 out of 5

Set within Otepää Nature Park in southern Estonia, Otepää Golf & Country Club offers one of the country’s most scenic and distinctive golf experiences. Surrounded by ancient forest, rolling hills and the lakes of Saagjärv and Mäha, the course has a peaceful countryside feel that works well for golfers looking to explore beyond Tallinn.

The 18-hole course is a par-73 championship layout, with natural elevation changes, forest-lined sections and water features creating a varied and enjoyable round. It is playable for a wide range of golfers, but the rolling terrain and strategic hazards mean good course management still matters.

One of the standout features is the rare par-6 10th hole, measuring 682 metres from the white tees, making it one of the most unusual holes in northern European golf. The course also has practice facilities, a clubhouse and restaurant, making it a strong option for both golf breaks and group trips.

Otepää works especially well as part of a wider Estonia itinerary, combining golf with South Estonia’s lakes, nature, spa hotels, winter-sport heritage and cultural visits to nearby Tartu.

About The Area

Otepää is one of Estonia’s best inland golf destinations, set among rolling hills, forests and lakes in the south of the country. It feels very different from the Tallinn-area courses: quieter, greener and more nature-led, with a proper countryside escape feel. Visit Estonia describes Otepää as Estonia’s top winter holiday destination, but also highlights its lakes and hilly landscape as appealing year-round.

The main venue is Otepää Golf & Country Club, a full-size 18-hole championship PAR73 course and one of Estonia’s strongest golf layouts. The course is set in ancient forest between lakes within Otepää Nature Park, giving it a peaceful, natural setting with plenty of variety from hole to hole.

Golf here is more undulating than many Estonian courses, so it rewards thoughtful club selection and good positioning rather than simply hitting it long. One of the big talking points is the rare par-6 10th hole, which adds a fun, unusual feature for visiting golfers. The landscape is around 60% forested and sits between Lake Saagjärv and Lake Mäha, so it has a lovely secluded feel.

The best time to visit is May to September, when the days are long, the course is at its greenest and South Estonia is ideal for outdoor travel.

Off the course, Otepää is brilliant for nature lovers. Lake Pühajärv, forest trails, cycling routes and spa hotels make it easy to turn a golf break into a proper relaxing holiday. Tartu is also close enough for a cultural day trip, with restaurants, museums and Estonia’s famous university atmosphere.

For golfers seeking peaceful Baltic golf, rolling countryside and a very different side of Estonia, Otepää is one of the country’s most rewarding inland golf escapes.
