Golf at Aldwark Manor

York

average rating is 4 out of 5

Golf at Aldwark Manor offers a peaceful parkland experience within 185 acres of North Yorkshire countryside. Winding through woodland and alongside the River Ure, the 18-hole, par-70 course measures approximately 6,000 yards and forms part of the wider Aldwark Manor Estate.

Natural features shape much of the playing experience. Streams, ponds, mature trees and changes in elevation require golfers to think carefully about where they place the ball. Several holes feature narrow fairways or strategically positioned bunkers, while sloping and elevated greens can make approach shots particularly important. The River Ure also comes into play, adding both scenery and risk to the round.

Although the course is not especially long by modern standards, it provides an enjoyable challenge for golfers of different abilities. Confident drivers will find opportunities to attack, but accuracy and sensible course management are often more valuable than distance. Its varied collection of holes and attractive rural setting make Aldwark Manor particularly well suited to golf societies, couples and relaxed group breaks.

Practice facilities include a putting green, while buggies and trolleys are available to hire. Drinks and snacks can be purchased from the halfway house, and Bunkers Sports Bar and Restaurant provides a convenient place for post-round food and refreshments.

Golfers staying at Aldwark Manor Estate can combine their rounds with comfortable accommodation, several dining options and the Salus Spa. York is also within easy reach, allowing visitors to explore the city’s medieval streets, historic attractions and traditional pubs during their golf break.

About The Area

York is one of the strongest UK city bases for a golf break because the off-course experience is genuinely excellent. The city has Roman roots, Viking history, medieval streets, ancient walls, independent shops, restaurants and attractions, so it works well for golfers, couples and mixed groups. Visit York describes it as a city where ancient walls surround attractions, shops, accommodation and eateries, with events and festivals throughout the year.

For golf, York Golf Club is a key local option. Founded in 1890, it is a historic club near the city with a visitor-friendly setup, strong greens, practice facilities, bar and catering. Fulford Golf Club is another excellent nearby choice and is widely regarded as one of Yorkshire’s best courses, with visitor information available for travelling golfers.

Away from the fairways, golfers can walk the York City Walls, visit York Minster, explore The Shambles, head to the National Railway Museum, take a river cruise or build in a proper food-and-pub weekend. The city walls are free to access on foot for much of the year, while the National Railway Museum is home to iconic locomotives and a major engineering collection.

For Hashtag Golf Travel customers, York works best as a premium city-and-golf weekend, a society trip, or a culture-heavy short break with strong non-golfer appeal.
