Golf at Mottram Hall
Wilmslow
Set within 270 acres of Cheshire parkland near Macclesfield, Mottram Hall is a strong stay-and-play option for golfers looking for a North West golf break with hotel, spa, dining and championship golf all on site. The resort combines a historic country house setting with modern Champneys spa facilities, making it a good fit for golf groups, couples and mixed-interest breaks where not everyone wants to spend the whole trip on the course.
The golf course is an 18-hole, par-72 championship layout measuring 7,006 yards. Designed by Dave Thomas, it is set across undulating parkland and woodland, with tree-lined fairways, strategic bunkering and subtle rolling greens creating a proper test for regular golfers. Straight driving is important here, but the course is playable for a range of abilities thanks to varied tee options and a welcoming resort set-up.
Mottram Hall has also hosted professional events, including the 2013 European Senior’s PGA Championship and PGA EuroPro Tour events, which adds to its appeal for golfers who enjoy venues with tournament pedigree. Practice facilities include covered driving range bays, a putting green and a short-game practice area, making it easy to warm up before the round or sharpen up during a break.
Away from the course, guests can enjoy the hotel’s spa, fitness facilities, restaurants and countryside setting, while Manchester, Macclesfield, Alderley Edge, Wilmslow and the Peak District are all within reach. For UK golfers, Mottram Hall works particularly well as a relaxed Cheshire golf break with easy access from Manchester, strong resort facilities and plenty to do nearby.

About The Area
Wilmslow is a very convenient Cheshire base for a golf break, especially for golfers who want good courses, smart restaurants, countryside and fast airport access. With Manchester Airport only a few miles away, it works particularly well for groups flying in, short UK breaks, or North West itineraries that need a polished but practical place to stay.
The main local course is The Wilmslow Golf Club, founded in 1889 and described by the club as a 6,639-yard, par-72 James Braid design in Cheshire countryside. It accepts individual and group visitor bookings, which makes it useful for golf breaks and society trips.
For extra golf nearby, Alderley Edge Golf Club gives another strong local option, while the wider Cheshire area opens up courses around Knutsford, Macclesfield, Stockport and south Manchester. This means Wilmslow can work either as a single-course stop or as a comfortable base for two or three rounds.
Away from golf, Quarry Bank in nearby Styal is the big local highlight. The National Trust describes it as one of Britain’s great industrial heritage sites, with a working mill, gardens and surrounding countryside. Wilmslow itself also has a strong town-centre feel, with restaurants, bars, shops and easy access to Alderley Edge, Tatton Park and Manchester.
For Hashtag Golf Travel customers, Wilmslow works best as a Cheshire golf weekend, an airport-friendly golf stop, or a smart North West short break with golf, heritage, food and countryside all close together.
