Wokefield Estate Golf Club is an 18-hole parkland course situated within 250 acres of Berkshire countryside near Reading. Measuring 6,996 yards and playing to a par of 72, it provides a substantial challenge from the back tees while remaining accessible from its shorter teeing options.

The course was designed by Jonathan Gaunt in 1996 and opened for play the following year. Its routing makes good use of the estate’s undulating ground, creating elevated tees, changing levels and attractive views across the surrounding countryside.

Mature oak and Wellingtonia trees frame several holes, while streams, lakes and carefully positioned bunkers shape the strategy. Golfers need to decide when to attack and when to play for position, particularly where water guards the preferred route towards the green. The generous scale of the course allows confident drivers to use their length, but control and course management become increasingly important around the hazards.

The short par-four second is an early example of this risk-and-reward character. Longer hitters may consider attempting to reach the green, although a substantial sandy carry makes the safer route an equally sensible choice. Later in the round, water carries and well-protected greens continue to test both club selection and accuracy.

Wokefield was designed to US PGA standards and works particularly well for society golf, competitive rounds and resort-based golf breaks. Practice facilities include a golf academy, driving range, putting green and dedicated short-game area, allowing players to warm up properly before their round.

The course forms part of Wokefield Estate, where golfers have access to extensive on-site accommodation, restaurants, bars and leisure facilities. Its location close to Reading, the M4 and London Heathrow makes it a practical option for groups travelling from across southern England or arriving by air.
