Garstang Golf Centre
Preston
Garstang Golf Centre is home to an established 18-hole, par-68 parkland course in the Lancashire countryside, directly alongside Garstang Country Hotel. Designed by PGA Master Professional and former PGA Captain Richard Bradbeer in 1992, the course measures 6,115 yards and has been created to provide an enjoyable test for a broad range of handicaps. Open fairways and forgiving rough help make it approachable, while strategically placed water hazards, bunkers and undulating greens ensure lower-handicap golfers still need to think carefully about their way around.
The character of the two nines is noticeably different. The front nine follows the Rivers Calder and Wyre, bringing water into play while featuring a particularly strong collection of par threes. The back nine opens out with several longer par fours and the course’s only par five, placing greater emphasis on driving before returning towards the clubhouse with views across the Fylde.
Among the memorable holes is the 14th, a picturesque par four with the River Wyre running along the left and the Lancaster Canal aqueduct behind the green. The 445-yard 15th then provides one of the tougher challenges, before the round finishes with a demanding 465-yard par-four 18th where many golfers will be happy to play the hole conservatively as a three-shotter.
Excellent drainage is one of Garstang’s practical strengths, helping the course remain playable throughout much of the year. Facilities include an outdoor putting green, pro shop, trolley and buggy hire, while the adjoining hotel provides bar and dining facilities immediately after the round.
For a longer Lancashire golf break, Garstang is also well positioned for exploring the wider Fylde Coast and Lancashire golf scene. With comfortable on-site accommodation and a playable course that works particularly well for societies and mixed-handicap groups, Garstang Golf Centre offers a straightforward and sociable stay-and-play option in North West England.
