Golf at Foxhills

Lyne

average rating is 4 out of 5

Golf at Foxhills offers two 18-hole championship courses and a nine-hole par-three course within 400 acres of Surrey countryside near Chertsey. Longcross and Bernard Hunt provide two very different challenges, while the Manor Course is ideal for an extra round or some short-game practice. With accommodation, restaurants, spa facilities and extensive practice areas all on the estate, Foxhills is particularly well suited to a premium stay-and-play golf break.

The Longcross Course is an 18-hole, par-72 layout measuring 6,463 yards from the white tees. Scots pine, beech and silver birch frame narrow playing corridors, creating a course where accuracy and positioning are essential. Water, bunkering and significant elevation changes add to the challenge, while a recent £2 million improvement programme included bunker renovations, drainage work and rebuilt greens.

The Bernard Hunt Course provides a contrasting round. Named after Foxhills' former head professional and 10-time Ryder Cup player Bernard Hunt MBE, it measures 6,744 yards from the white tees. It is longer than Longcross but generally more forgiving from the tee, with a more open feel and several memorable elevated tee shots. The downhill 10th also offers impressive views towards the London skyline.

Golfers can also play the nine-hole Manor Course, a par-27 layout measuring 1,122 yards and designed by Bernard Hunt. It sits in front of the Victorian Manor House and works brilliantly for beginners, families or experienced players wanting to sharpen their wedges and short game.

Practice facilities are excellent. Foxhills has a 16-bay floodlit TrackMan driving range, five target greens and the 3,500-square-metre Practice Den, which includes bunkers, hitting areas and a large undulating green for pitching, chipping and putting. PGA coaching, custom fitting, GPS buggies, electric trolleys and rental clubs are also available.

We recommend Foxhills for golfers wanting two genuinely contrasting championship rounds with first-class practice and resort facilities on the doorstep. Its location is another big advantage, particularly for groups flying into London or combining Foxhills with other leading Surrey courses.
