Oulton Hall Golf Club offers 27 holes of parkland golf within the grounds of Oulton Hall near Leeds. Designed by Dave Thomas, the golf is split across three nine-hole loops – Calverley, Park and Hall – which can be combined to create different 18-hole rounds. This makes it a particularly good option for golf groups staying more than one night, as you can enjoy some variety without travelling to another venue.
The Calverley Course is a par-36 nine measuring 3,324 yards. Generous fairway contours, sculpted bunkers and well-framed greens give it a classic championship feel, while the rolling ground means choosing the correct position from the tee can be more useful than simply chasing distance.
The Park Course measures 3,157 yards and plays to a par of 35. Tree-lined fairways, subtle elevation changes and narrowing landing areas create a more tactical challenge, with several shorter par fours tempting golfers into taking on more risk from the tee.
Completing the 27 holes is the Hall Course, a par-36 layout measuring 3,300 yards. It offers a balanced mixture of par threes, fours and fives, with strategic bunkering and varied approach shots giving the loop plenty of character. Its setting also brings golfers closer to Oulton Hall's impressive historic mansion.
Practice facilities are another strength. Oulton Hall has a fully covered and floodlit TrackMan Driving Range, putting facilities, an on-site golf shop and PGA professional coaching. Custom fitting is also available, while buggies can be reserved subject to weather and availability.

Wakefield is a strong Yorkshire golf-break base, especially for golfers who want proper local courses, easy motorway access and a surprisingly good arts-and-heritage scene. It works well for societies, couples or groups who want more to do than simply play golf and head straight back to the hotel.
The main local option is Wakefield Golf Club at Sandal. The club describes its course as a challenging par 72, designed by Sandy Herd and bunkered by Dr Alister MacKenzie, with two loops of nine that both start and finish at the clubhouse. It is also popular with visitors and societies, which makes it a good fit for short-break golf. Waterton Park Golf Club is another strong nearby choice, offering an 18-hole championship course in the historic grounds of what it describes as the world’s first nature reserve.
Away from the course, Wakefield has loads to add into a trip. The Hepworth Wakefield gives the city a major contemporary art attraction, while Yorkshire Sculpture Park is only around seven miles from Wakefield and makes an excellent half-day option between rounds. For something more hands-on, the National Coal Mining Museum tells 180 years of mining history, with underground tours going 140 metres underground when operating.
