About The Area
Bingley is a strong West Yorkshire base for a relaxed UK golf break, especially for golfers who want countryside, heritage and easy access to Bradford, Leeds, Ilkley and the Yorkshire Dales. It has a proper Yorkshire market-town feel, with the Leeds & Liverpool Canal running through it and the famous Bingley Five Rise Locks giving the area a standout visitor attraction. The locks opened in 1774, have a total fall of 60 feet, and are Grade I listed.
The main local golf option is Bingley St Ives Golf Club, set within the St Ives Estate, around one mile from Bingley town centre. The course is an 18-hole layout that moves through parkland, woodland and moorland, giving golfers a nice bit of variety rather than a plain back-and-forth parkland round.
There is good nearby golf too. Shipley Golf Club, based at Beckfoot just outside Bingley, is described by the club as a challenging course in a quiet wooded valley and was designed by Dr Alister MacKenzie. Bradford Golf Club at Hawksworth adds another quality option, with heathland golf and views towards the Aire Valley.
Away from golf, Bingley works well for canal walks, St Ives Estate, Saltaire and easy Yorkshire exploring. Saltaire, nearby on the River Aire, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the area’s best cultural add-ons.
For Hashtag Golf Travel customers, Bingley is best suited to a Yorkshire golf weekend, society trip, or a scenic short break combining golf, countryside and heritage. It is not a resort-style destination, but it has good local golf, easy airport access and plenty of proper Yorkshire character.
