Owston Hall Golf Club

Doncaster

average rating is 3 out of 5

Owston Hall Golf Club is home to the Robin Hood Course, an 18-hole parkland layout set within the historic 147-acre Owston Estate just outside Doncaster. Golf has been part of the estate since the late 1920s, and today the course combines mature woodland, rolling fairways and views of the Grade II*-listed Georgian Owston Hall to create a traditional South Yorkshire golf experience.

Playing to a par of 70 and measuring 5,950 yards, the Robin Hood Course is relatively compact by modern standards, but its challenge comes from positioning rather than sheer length. Mature trees frame many of the holes, while strategically placed bunkers, shaped greens and changes in elevation reward golfers who think carefully from the tee. The course has developed into a championship venue over the years and has previously hosted PGA tournaments.

There is plenty of variety across the round. The short, driveable par-four 2nd immediately offers a tempting risk-and-reward opportunity, while the stroke-index-one 14th demands an accurate drive to create the best approach into a sloping green. The closing hole provides a particularly memorable finish, with water protecting the green and making par a very respectable score after a demanding final approach.

The course is suitable for a wide range of handicaps, with enough forgiveness for recreational golfers while still offering strategic challenges for lower-handicap players. Golf tuition is available for anyone looking to sharpen their game, while the professional shop stocks equipment and accessories. Buggies and other golf equipment can also be hired subject to availability.

Owston Hall works particularly well for golf societies and stay-and-play groups, with accommodation, restaurant and bar facilities located directly beside the course. Its position close to the A1(M) also makes it convenient for golfers travelling from across Yorkshire and the Midlands, creating an easy option for a sociable South Yorkshire golf break.
