Medellín is an exciting base for a Colombian golf holiday, combining mountain-framed courses with excellent restaurants, colourful neighbourhoods and a mild climate that has earned it the nickname “the City of Eternal Spring”. The city fills the Aburrá Valley, so golfers are rarely far from impressive views of the surrounding Andes. International visitors normally arrive through José María Córdova International Airport in Rionegro, where pre-arranged transfers are the easiest option when travelling with golf clubs.
The most convenient course is Club Campestre El Rodeo, an 18-hole, par-72 layout within Medellín. Its undulating fairways, strategic greens and views across the city create an unusual round where urban surroundings meet mature parkland. The club continues to host important national competitions, including the 2026 El Rodeo Open.
Golfers staying longer can travel east to Club Campestre de Medellín’s Llanogrande course near Rionegro. This 18-hole layout occupies a quieter natural setting and provides a strong contrast to El Rodeo’s city-based experience. La Macarena, another course operated by Club Campestre El Rodeo near Rionegro, can also be considered when creating a multi-round itinerary.
Medellín’s leading courses are generally member-focused, so tee times, caddies, club hire and transport should be confirmed before travelling. Specialist local services can arrange access to El Rodeo, Llanogrande and La Macarena rather than golfers relying on walk-in availability.
Away from golf, we recommend exploring Comuna 13 with a local guide, riding the Metrocable for views across the valley and visiting Parque Arví for walking and cycling. The Botanical Garden provides a gentler afternoon, while the restaurants of El Poblado and Laureles are ideal for trying bandeja paisa, arepas, grilled meats and Colombian coffee.
Medellín works best as a carefully organised city-and-golf break, offering distinctive courses, lively evenings and an excellent starting point for exploring Antioquia.
