Mytton Fold Golf Club
Blackburn
Mytton Fold Golf Club is a scenic 18-hole parkland course in the Ribble Valley, positioned between Blackburn and Clitheroe with impressive views towards Pendle Hill. Built into the Lancashire hillside, the course combines attractive countryside with enough elevation changes and strategic decisions to make it enjoyable for golfers of different abilities.
Opened by Kenny Dalglish in 1994, the current course plays to a par of 70 and measures approximately 5,860 yards from the white tees. Its undulating fairways and varied hole designs mean golfers will regularly face changing lies and club selections, while the hillside setting creates some excellent views across the surrounding Ribble Valley.
Although relatively short by modern standards, Mytton Fold rewards accuracy and sensible course management. The changing elevations add much of the challenge, and there is enough variety across the par threes, fours and the solitary par five to make players use most of the clubs in their bag. With slope ratings of 119 from the white tees and 121 from the yellows, it provides a fair but interesting test for mixed-handicap golf groups.
Visitors and societies are welcomed, with golf-day packages available throughout the season. The club also operates a fleet of 14 golf buggies, supported by all-weather buggy paths that help make buggy use possible throughout much of the year. Trolleys, electric trolleys and rental clubs are available, alongside a fully stocked golf shop.
Mytton Fold works particularly well for a Lancashire stay-and-play break because accommodation is available immediately beside the course. Residential packages can combine golf with dinner, bed and breakfast, making it a simple option for societies or groups who want to park up and keep transfers to a minimum.
