Dreamland Golf is the centrepiece of one of Azerbaijan’s most complete golf destinations, offering championship golf just outside Baku and only a short drive from Heydar Aliyev International Airport. The 18-hole, par-72 championship course was created by Cynthia Dye and Dye Designs and officially opened in 2015. Stretching to approximately 6,838 metres from the back tees, it provides a serious test for experienced players while several forward teeing options make the layout accessible to golfers of different abilities.
What we particularly like about Dreamland is the combination of generous visibility and clever strategy. The relatively open terrain allows you to see plenty of the hole from the tee, but tapered fairways, strong bunkering and water hazards mean simply hitting the ball a long way is rarely enough. The course has been designed to encourage golfers to think about angles and positioning, especially when attacking its well-defended greens.
The proximity of the Caspian Sea adds another challenge. Prevailing winds can completely change club selection and make the same hole play very differently from one day to the next. That unpredictability gives Dreamland real character and helps create the Mediterranean-style golf experience that Dye Designs intended for this part of the Caucasus. The course is also officially rated and approved by the European Golf Association.
Practice facilities are a major strength. The Dreamland Golf Academy, managed by IMG, includes 22 covered driving-range bays, two VIP bays, a short-game area and practice putting green. Golfers can also use an IMG Performance Studio, FlightScope technology, V1 video analysis and a SAM PuttLab studio, with PGA professionals available for individual and group coaching.
After the round, the clubhouse offers comfortable lounge and dining areas, a Golf Shop and modern changing facilities. Its large terrace overlooks the 18th hole, making it our choice for a post-round drink as the sun starts to drop.
Dreamland Golf Hotel is also located within the complex, with 42 rooms overlooking the course, while central Baku is around 20 minutes away. That makes Dreamland ideal for golfers who want to combine their rounds with Baku’s Old City, restaurants and Caspian waterfront.
