Brijuni Golf Course is one of Croatia’s most unusual and memorable golf experiences, set inside Brijuni National Park on Veliki Brijun Island, just off the Istrian coast. Reached by boat from Fažana, near Pula, it offers something very different from a standard resort round: peaceful island golf surrounded by Mediterranean trees, coastline, wildlife and national park scenery.
The course has a remarkable history, with golf played on Brijuni since 1922. The National Park notes that the first tournament was held in March 1923, and the course was once considered one of the largest in Europe. It was also shaped during golf’s golden age, with later design work linked to Tom Simpson and George C. Thomas.
Today, the course offers 18 holes, playing to par 71 and measuring 5,492 metres. It is accessible for a wide range of golfers, with wide fairways, bunkers, trees, bushes and water hazards creating a relaxed but still interesting test. One of its quirks is the eco-friendly maintenance approach: no pesticides are used and the course is not watered, so conditions change naturally with the weather.

Cajicá is an excellent base for a golf holiday on the Bogotá Savannah, combining one of Colombia’s most historic courses with cooler mountain air, peaceful countryside and easy access to the capital. El Dorado International Airport is approximately 37 kilometres away by road, although Bogotá traffic can make transfer times unpredictable. We recommend using pre-arranged transport throughout the trip.
The main attraction is Club El Rincón de Cajicá, an 18-hole course designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr and opened in 1957. Its tree-lined fairways, substantial bunkering, water hazards and demanding greens create a proper championship challenge where careful positioning matters as much as distance. The club hosted the World Cup of Golf in 1980, confirming its important place within Colombian golf history.
The high-altitude setting adds another dimension to the round, as well-struck shots may travel farther through the thinner air. Golfers should also prepare for quickly changing conditions by carrying sun protection, waterproofs and an extra layer. Club El Rincón is member-focused, so we recommend arranging access, tee times and any required handicap documents before travelling rather than assuming public availability.
Away from golf, Cajicá offers restaurants, parks, cultural activities and a relaxed town centre surrounded by the green landscapes of Cundinamarca. Nearby Chía is popular for dining and lively evenings, while Bogotá provides museums, historic neighbourhoods, shopping and a huge choice of restaurants.
