Golfclub Schloss Schönborn is one of Austria’s most elegant golf venues and a fantastic choice for a golf holiday near Vienna. Set within the 104-hectare parkland of Schloss Schönborn, around 30km north-west of Vienna, the club combines classic Austrian history with peaceful, tree-lined championship golf. The course opened in 1989 and makes beautiful use of the existing castle grounds rather than feeling artificially shaped.
Golfers have 27 holes to enjoy, with two thirds of the championship layout sitting inside the castle grounds. The course has a refined parkland feel, with mature trees, narrow fairways, gentle elevation changes, water hazards and smooth, quick greens. It is not a course where you can simply blast driver everywhere. Good positioning, patient course management and tidy approach play are rewarded.
The setting is a huge part of the appeal. With the Baroque castle forming the heart of the club, a round here feels more special than a typical resort course. The venue has also built a strong reputation in Austrian golf, having been voted Austria’s best course multiple times by Austrian golfers, according to the European Golf Association.
