Colony Golf Club

Vienna

average rating is 4 out of 5

Colony Club Gutenhof is a strong choice for an Austria golf holiday, especially for golfers who want plenty of golf close to Vienna. Set on the Gutenhof estate in Himberg, just south of the Austrian capital, the club offers a peaceful parkland setting while still being very practical for flights, hotels, sightseeing and city restaurants.

The venue is home to two 18-hole championship courses, the East Course and West Course, making it one of the best options near Vienna for groups who want more than one round without changing resort. The courses sit within old alluvial forest, giving the golf a mature, green and traditional feel rather than a busy city-course atmosphere.

The West Course is often seen as the stronger test, with more water hazards and a classic parkland layout that rewards accuracy, course management and confident approach play. The East Course adds useful variety, with doglegs, tree-lined holes and positioning required from the tee. Together, they give travelling golfers a full 36-hole experience within one club.

For a Vienna golf holiday, Colony Club Gutenhof works particularly well. Golfers can enjoy two quality courses during the day, then head into Vienna for historic streets, restaurants, coffee houses and evening culture. It also pairs nicely with other Lower Austria courses such as Golfclub Föhrenwald, Fontana and Adamstal for a broader Austrian golf itinerary. Hashtag Golf Travel can help arrange the right flights, hotels, transfers and tee times, creating a smooth golf break with city appeal and plenty of course variety.

About The Area

Wien, better known in English as Vienna, is one of Europe’s most elegant city bases for a golf holiday. It combines accessible courses with imperial architecture, coffee-house culture, wine taverns and the River Danube, making it ideal for golfers who want a proper city break alongside their rounds.

The most central option is Golf Club Wien, Austria’s oldest golf club and a traditional city course with a classic clubhouse feel. For a more modern setup, Golfpark Vienna offers an 18-hole championship-style course, a 9-hole course and extensive practice facilities, making it useful for mixed-ability groups or arrival-day golf. Just outside the city, Fontana Golf Club near Baden is one of the region’s strongest championship venues, with high-end facilities, water hazards and convenient access from both Vienna city centre and Vienna-Schwechat Airport.

Golf around Wien is best from April to October, with May to September usually offering the most comfortable temperatures, longer daylight and stronger course conditions. The city’s location also makes it easy to combine golf with nearby Lower Austria courses such as Diamond Country Club in Atzenbrugg or Golfclub Schloss Schönborn near Göllersdorf.

Off the course, Vienna is superb. The historic centre, Schönbrunn Palace, museums, opera houses and traditional cafés give the city huge cultural depth. Its wine culture is also a major bonus: Vienna is unusual because it grows enough wine within the city limits to be genuinely significant, and its Heurige wine taverns are a classic post-round experience.

For golfers seeking refined city life, quality nearby golf and memorable evenings filled with food, wine and culture, Wien is one of Central Europe’s most polished and enjoyable golf escapes.
