Shingle Creek Golf Club
Orlando
Located in Orlando, Florida, Shingle Creek Golf Club offers an 18-hole championship course beside Rosen Shingle Creek, close to the city’s major attractions and convention district. Set around the historic headwaters of the Florida Everglades, the course combines waterways, mature oak and pine trees and rolling terrain to create a surprisingly natural golf setting within one of America’s busiest holiday destinations.
The par-72 course measures 7,213 yards from its longest tees and was shaped by the Arnold Palmer Design Company, with senior architect Thad Layton responsible for the current layout. The redesign introduced three new holes and significantly reworked several others, with the aim of creating greater strategic variety while providing more recovery options for golfers of different abilities. Wider landing areas make the course approachable from the tee, but positioning remains important when attacking its well-protected greens.
Shingle Creek is characterised by undulating fairways and greens, strategically placed bunkers and interconnected waterways. The design takes inspiration from classic golf architecture, with closely mown run-off areas around the greens creating several different short-game options. Golfers regularly need to decide whether to take an aggressive line towards the flag or use the additional fairway width to leave a safer approach.
The variety becomes clear early in the round. The par-five 2nd measures 561 yards and features a prominent bunker within the landing area, forcing players to choose their route carefully from the tee. Elsewhere, the course mixes drivable par fours with lengthy par fours and par fives, while its shortest par three still stretches to 191 yards, ensuring that shorter holes are not necessarily straightforward scoring opportunities.
Shingle Creek also has competitive credentials, having served as a host course for U.S. Open and U.S. Amateur qualifying. Its presentation and facilities are designed to support tournament golf while remaining accessible to resort guests and everyday visitors.
Practice facilities include a driving range and putting greens, while the on-site Shingle Creek Golf Academy provides coaching and player-development programmes. Golfers also have access to GPS-equipped carts, club rental and a well-stocked Pro Shop. Rosen Shingle Creek guests receive preferred tee times and complimentary range balls.
With its Arnold Palmer design, strategic variety and convenient Orlando location, Shingle Creek Golf Club is an excellent addition to an Orlando golf holiday, offering a championship experience that feels far removed from the surrounding city despite being only minutes from its best-known attractions.
