Barefoot Golf

Myrtle Beach

average rating is 4 out of 5

Barefoot Golf brings together four distinctive championship courses within one North Myrtle Beach resort. Designed by Greg Norman, Davis Love III, Tom Fazio and Pete Dye, the collection provides 72 holes of contrasting Lowcountry golf without requiring lengthy transfers between rounds.

The Norman Course is the most golfer-friendly of the four. Seven holes run alongside the Intracoastal Waterway, while generous landing areas and open green complexes allow players to swing confidently. Native vegetation, sandy waste areas and white-faced bunkers add strategic interest to this par-72 layout, which measures just over 7,000 yards.

The Love Course provides perhaps the best balance of challenge and playability. Davis Love III created generous fairways before placing greater emphasis on approach play around Pinehurst-inspired green complexes. Recreated plantation-house ruins feature between the 3rd and 7th holes, giving the course a memorable visual identity.

The Fazio Course is the shortest at 6,834 yards and plays to par 71, but it demands accuracy from the tee. Live oaks, pines, lakes, natural areas and steep-faced fairway bunkers frame a visually impressive layout with genuine changes in elevation. Unlike a conventional resort course, it does not return to the clubhouse after nine holes.

The semi-private Dye Course is generally considered Barefoot’s toughest test. Stretching to 7,343 yards, it displays Pete Dye’s familiar combination of bold bunkering, native grasses, water and hazards positioned to gather inaccurate shots. Selecting an appropriate tee is essential, particularly for mixed-handicap groups.

Norman, Love and Fazio share the main resort clubhouse, while the Dye Course has its own clubhouse and practice range. Golfers can also use Barefoot’s 30-acre practice facility, featuring grass tees, 13 target greens and dedicated putting and chipping areas.

About The Area

Myrtle Beach is one of America’s big-name golf holiday destinations, and for good reason. Sitting on South Carolina’s Grand Strand, it combines beach resorts, lively nightlife, restaurants, shopping, family attractions and a huge choice of golf. Visit Myrtle Beach says the wider area has 80+ championship golf courses, while its main visitor site promotes 90+ championship courses, so the exact count depends on how widely the Grand Strand is defined — either way, golfers are spoilt for choice.

The golf variety is the main selling point. The Dunes Golf & Beach Club is one of the classic Myrtle Beach names, with a Robert Trent Jones-designed championship course and PGA TOUR hosting pedigree. Tidewater Golf Club gives golfers a scenic coastal round between the Intracoastal Waterway and Cherry Grove Inlet, while Barefoot Resort & Golf offers four championship courses designed by Greg Norman, Davis Love III, Tom Fazio and Pete Dye.

Away from golf, Myrtle Beach is a proper holiday destination rather than just a golf base. The wider Grand Strand has around 60 miles of sandy beaches, with boardwalk attractions, seafood restaurants, waterparks, family entertainment, nightlife and coastal towns nearby. That makes it a strong choice for groups where not everyone wants to play every day.

For Hashtag Golf Travel customers, Myrtle Beach works best as a longer USA golf holiday, a group trip, or a multi-course itinerary with plenty of beach and nightlife built in. It is not a quick hop like Spain or Portugal, but for UK golfers wanting an iconic American golf destination with serious course choice, Myrtle Beach is right up there.
