Located in Richmond, Kentucky, Gibson Bay Golf Course is a strong public golf option in the Bluegrass Region, set within the wider 450-acre Lake Reba recreational complex. Designed by Michael Hurdzan in 1993, the course was recognised as an honourable mention by Golf Digest for Best New Public Golf Course in the United States, giving it a nice bit of pedigree for a municipal venue.

The main course is an 18-hole, par-72 layout stretching to around 7,100 yards, with up to five tee boxes on each hole. That makes it flexible for mixed-ability groups, while still giving lower-handicap golfers plenty of length and decision-making from the back tees. The course uses bent grass on tees, greens and fairways, and the official scorecard lists the black tees at 7,130 yards, with a rating of 73.7 and slope of 131.

Gibson Bay is especially useful for visiting golfers because it offers a relaxed, accessible round without losing quality. The layout includes water hazards, rolling greens, bunkering and mounding, so approach play and course management still matter. Kentucky Tourism also highlights its driving and putting range, multiple tee boxes and bus parking, which makes it practical for travelling groups.

There is also a walking-only 9-hole short course, built with help from Hurdzan Fry Golf Course Design and a USGA Growth of the Game grant. This adds value for beginners, juniors, warm-up rounds or golfers wanting a quicker extra game.
