About The Area

Bucaramanga offers a distinctive Colombian golf holiday, combining mountain scenery, warm weather and two established clubs with the food and adventure experiences of Santander. The city sits in the foothills of the Eastern Andes and is served by Palonegro International Airport, approximately 25–30 kilometres west of the centre. Transfers commonly take around 45 minutes, depending on traffic and the winding approach into the city.

The main city course is found at Club Campestre de Bucaramanga in nearby Floridablanca. Its 18-hole, par-72 layout measures 6,349 yards and was designed by Mahanann & Saenz. The club also has practice facilities, a golf academy, hotel accommodation, restaurants, swimming pools, tennis courts and spa facilities, making it a convenient option for a stay-and-play itinerary.

Ruitoque Golf Country Club provides another important course south of Bucaramanga, positioned on the hillside route towards Piedecuesta. Its elevated location gives the golfing experience a strong sense of connection with Santander’s valleys and surrounding mountains. Both venues are member-focused clubs, so we recommend confirming hotel arrangements, reciprocal access and tee times before travelling.

Away from golf, the standout excursion is Chicamocha Canyon, approximately 54 kilometres from Bucaramanga. Chicamocha National Park offers viewpoints, cultural attractions, adventure activities and a cable car crossing the canyon, making it an excellent full-day trip between rounds.

Closer to the city, golfers can explore the colonial streets of Girón or travel to Cerro del Santísimo, whose panoramic viewpoint overlooks Floridablanca and the wider metropolitan area. Bucaramanga also provides museums, parks, restaurants and lively neighbourhoods for relaxed evenings after golf.

Santander’s food is another highlight. We recommend trying cabrito santandereano, carne oreada, corn arepas and mute, a hearty local soup made with corn, meat and vegetables. Bucaramanga works best as a carefully organised golf-and-adventure itinerary, combining pre-arranged club access with dramatic landscapes and one of Colombia’s most characterful regional cuisines.
