Chiangmai Highlands Golf Courses
Chiang Mai
Chiangmai Highlands Golf & Spa Resort is one of those golf venues that shows exactly why northern Thailand is such a special place for a golf holiday. Set in the foothills east of Chiang Mai, the resort offers 27 holes of championship golf surrounded by mountains and tropical vegetation, with the scenery becoming a genuine part of the experience from the moment you reach the first tee.
Designed by Schmidt-Curley Golf Design, the golf is divided into three nine-hole layouts – the Valley Course, Highlands Course and Mountain Course. Each plays to a par of 36 and has its own character, allowing different combinations to be used for an 18-hole round. For golfers staying for several days, that variety is a real advantage because you can play multiple rounds without simply repeating the same course.
The Valley Course is the longest of the three, stretching to 3,617 yards from the back tees. It gives you opportunities to use the driver but still demands plenty of thought, with bunkering, changes in elevation and strategically positioned hazards making accuracy important. The Highlands Course is almost as long at 3,610 yards and continues the strategic theme, with strong par 4s and two substantial par 5s creating plenty of opportunities to attack if your tee shot finds the right position.
The Mountain Course is slightly shorter at 3,522 yards, but we certainly would not describe it as the easy nine. The natural contours of the foothills become more noticeable here, making distance control and club selection particularly important. Across all three courses, the greens are quick and well contoured, so getting the ball into the correct part of the putting surface can make a big difference to your score.
What we particularly enjoy about Chiangmai Highlands is that it feels like proper championship golf without losing the enjoyment of the surroundings. There are demanding holes for stronger players, but five sets of tees mean golfers can choose a distance that suits their game. From the back tees, the Valley and Highlands combination reaches 7,227 yards, while shorter options make the course much more manageable for higher handicappers.
Practice facilities are excellent too, with a 300-yard grass driving range, three putting greens and a dedicated short-game area with bunkers. The clubhouse overlooks the golf course and offers changing facilities, a restaurant and plenty of space to relax after your round.
With private resort villas also available on site and Chiang Mai around 30 minutes away, Chiangmai Highlands works brilliantly for both dedicated stay-and-play breaks and wider northern Thailand golf itineraries.

About The Area
Chiang Mai offers one of Thailand’s most scenic and culturally rich golf destinations, set against a backdrop of forested mountains in the country’s northern highlands. Cooler than Bangkok and Pattaya, and far more relaxed in pace, it combines championship golf with temples, night markets and a strong sense of traditional Thai heritage.
One of the region’s flagship venues is Alpine Golf Resort Chiang Mai, a championship layout set among rolling hills and natural water features. Known for its immaculate conditioning, dramatic bunkering and elevated tees, it offers a visually striking and strategic test. Nearby, Chiang Mai Highlands Golf & Spa Resort consistently ranks among Thailand’s top courses. Its wide fairways, large greens and mountain-framed holes create a memorable round that balances playability with challenge. Summit Green Valley Chiang Mai Country Club adds further variety, with a flatter, tree-lined layout closer to the city centre.
Golf in Chiang Mai is defined by lush presentation, attentive caddie service and cooler morning temperatures compared to southern Thailand. The terrain is more undulating, and mountain views are a constant feature. The prime golf season runs from November to February, when humidity is lower and conditions are comfortably warm.
Off the course, Chiang Mai is renowned for its historic Old City, surrounded by ancient walls and moats. Ornate temples such as Wat Phra Singh and Wat Chedi Luang provide cultural depth, while the bustling Night Bazaar offers street food and local crafts. For rest days, excursions into the surrounding mountains, elephant sanctuaries and scenic waterfalls provide memorable alternatives.
For golfers seeking high-quality championship courses combined with cooler climates, mountain scenery and rich cultural immersion, Chiang Mai delivers one of Thailand’s most distinctive and rewarding golf escapes.
