Alpine Golf Resort Chiang Mai Golf Courses
Chiang Mai
Alpine Golf Resort Chiang Mai is one of our favourite options for golfers looking to experience the beautiful courses of northern Thailand. Set around 25 kilometres east of Chiang Mai, the resort offers 27 holes of championship golf surrounded by mountains, mature woodland and lush countryside. It feels wonderfully peaceful once you are out on the course, yet Chiang Mai and its international airport are only around 30 minutes away.
The golf is divided into three nine-hole loops – Course A, Course B and Course C – which can be combined in different ways to create a varied 18-hole experience. The courses were shaped by Ron M. Garl and Thai golf course designer Pirapon Nanatra, with water, bunkering, elevation changes and large, contoured greens creating plenty of strategic decisions throughout the round.
Course A gives you an immediate taste of what Alpine is all about. Water frequently influences your line from the tee, while doglegs and changes in elevation make positioning just as important as distance. The finishing ninth is one of the most memorable holes on this loop, with an island-style fairway and water demanding two committed shots to finish the nine successfully.
Course B has a slightly different character but continues to reward good course management. Streams, ponds and fairway bunkers regularly come into play, while several holes give longer hitters the opportunity to be aggressive if they are prepared to accept the added risk. We particularly like that there is usually a sensible route available too, making the course enjoyable across a wide range of handicaps.
Course C arguably provides some of the most dramatic golf of the three. Water is a major feature, including the short par-3 sixth where you play directly to an island green. There are also split fairways, creeks crossing landing areas and several holes where the safest route and the quickest route to the green are very different.
Across all 27 holes, we would prioritise accuracy over outright distance. There is room to open the shoulders in places, but choosing the correct side of the fairway can make your next shot considerably easier.
The practice facilities include a 250-yard driving range, while the clubhouse provides modern changing facilities, a Pro Shop and dining options for before or after your round. Golfers can also stay directly at Alpine Golf Resort Chiang Mai, making this an excellent option for a dedicated stay-and-play break.
We think Alpine deserves a place on any Chiang Mai golf itinerary, particularly if you want plenty of variety without travelling between courses every day. About The Area
Chiang Mai offers one of Thailand’s most scenic and culturally rich golf destinations, set against a backdrop of forested mountains in the country’s northern highlands. Cooler than Bangkok and Pattaya, and far more relaxed in pace, it combines championship golf with temples, night markets and a strong sense of traditional Thai heritage.
One of the region’s flagship venues is Alpine Golf Resort Chiang Mai, a championship layout set among rolling hills and natural water features. Known for its immaculate conditioning, dramatic bunkering and elevated tees, it offers a visually striking and strategic test. Nearby, Chiang Mai Highlands Golf & Spa Resort consistently ranks among Thailand’s top courses. Its wide fairways, large greens and mountain-framed holes create a memorable round that balances playability with challenge. Summit Green Valley Chiang Mai Country Club adds further variety, with a flatter, tree-lined layout closer to the city centre.
Golf in Chiang Mai is defined by lush presentation, attentive caddie service and cooler morning temperatures compared to southern Thailand. The terrain is more undulating, and mountain views are a constant feature. The prime golf season runs from November to February, when humidity is lower and conditions are comfortably warm.
Off the course, Chiang Mai is renowned for its historic Old City, surrounded by ancient walls and moats. Ornate temples such as Wat Phra Singh and Wat Chedi Luang provide cultural depth, while the bustling Night Bazaar offers street food and local crafts. For rest days, excursions into the surrounding mountains, elephant sanctuaries and scenic waterfalls provide memorable alternatives.
For golfers seeking high-quality championship courses combined with cooler climates, mountain scenery and rich cultural immersion, Chiang Mai delivers one of Thailand’s most distinctive and rewarding golf escapes.
