Golf Sempachersee

Zürich

average rating is 4 out of 5

Set on a high plateau above Lake Sempach, just north of Lucerne, Golf Sempachersee is one of Switzerland’s largest and most complete golf destinations. The resort features two 18-hole championship courses — Woodside and Lakeside — along with extensive practice facilities, making it a strong option for multi-round stays in central Switzerland.

The Woodside Course is the headline layout. At 6,637 metres, this par-72 course is listed by the club as the longest championship course in Switzerland and has hosted multiple European Challenge Tour events. Designed by Kurt Rossknecht, it uses undulating terrain, water hazards and strategic shaping to create a proper test for stronger golfers.

The Lakeside Course offers a slightly more relaxed contrast, playing as a par-70 layout of around 5,600 metres. It follows the natural contours of the land and provides a more accessible but still scenic round, with views across the surrounding countryside and alpine backdrop.

For golf holidays, Golf Sempachersee works beautifully as part of a Lucerne or central Switzerland itinerary. It gives golfers variety without extra transfers, while nearby Lucerne, Lake Sempach and luxury stays around Bürgenstock make it easy to combine golf with lakes, mountains, spa time and Swiss sightseeing.

About The Area

Zürich is one of Switzerland’s strongest city-based golf destinations, combining polished courses, lakeside scenery and one of Europe’s most liveable urban settings. It works especially well for golfers who want a refined short break: easy flights, quality hotels, smart restaurants and several courses within sensible driving distance. Switzerland Tourism notes that there are 12 golfing greens in and around Zürich, with landscapes ranging from hilly countryside and woods to lakes and rivers.

A standout option is Golf Kyburg, around 20 minutes from Zürich. It offers an 18-hole championship course and is part of the Leading Golf Courses of Switzerland network, so it has a more premium, well-kept feel. For lake views, Golfpark Zürichsee near Upper Lake Zürich is a strong choice, with gently rolling fairways and views towards the Glarus mountains, the Linth Plateau and Rapperswil. Closer to the city, Dolder Golfclub Zürich provides a historic 9-hole option in an elevated setting above Zürich, useful for a lighter round or arrival-day golf.

Golf around Zürich is generally best from April to October, with May to September offering the most reliable mix of comfortable temperatures, longer daylight and good course conditions.

Off the course, Zürich is ideal for a cultured golf break. The Old Town, Lake Zürich, riverside dining and smart shopping areas make evenings easy to fill, while boat trips, nearby vineyards and day trips to Lucerne or Rapperswil add variety. For golfers seeking Swiss precision, tidy courses, lake views and a proper city-break feel, Zürich is one of Switzerland’s most convenient and polished golf bases.
