Mar Menor Golf

Costa Blanca

average rating is 4 out of 5

Mar Menor Golf is a brilliant choice for golfers staying in Spain’s Region of Murcia, combining two different design styles within one 18-hole layout. Set within Mar Menor Golf Resort near Torre-Pacheco and within easy reach of the beaches of the Costa Cálida, the course works particularly well as part of a multi-course Murcia golf holiday.

The 18-hole, par-72 course measures 6,153 metres from the back tees and combines the work of Dave Thomas and Nicklaus Design. The result is a course with two noticeably different personalities, giving you plenty of variety across a single round.

The earlier part of the course has a more traditional feel, with tighter landing areas, well-protected greens and water waiting to catch shots that drift away from the intended line. Accuracy from the tee is useful here, particularly when positioning your ball for approaches into greens guarded by bunkers and lakes.

As the round develops, the Nicklaus influence becomes more obvious. Fairways become broader, bunkers grow in scale and the overall appearance becomes more open and dramatic. This section may look generous from the tee, but there is still plenty of strategy involved. Choosing the right side of the fairway can leave a much easier approach, while aggressive lines bring the larger hazards firmly into play.

The most memorable stretch comes around holes 13, 14 and 15, an area often described as Mar Menor’s own “Amen Corner”. A substantial lake dominates this section of the course, creating some of the strongest visual holes and asking you to commit fully to your shots around the water.

What we particularly like about Mar Menor Golf is that it is enjoyable for a broad range of handicaps. The fairways provide enough room for holiday golfers to enjoy themselves, but better players will quickly discover that placement matters if they want to attack the flags and put together a low score.
Practice facilities include a driving range, putting green and chipping area, while the club also provides a Pro Shop, changing facilities, restaurant and clubhouse. The wider resort adds accommodation and spa facilities, making Mar Menor especially convenient for golfers who like the simplicity of staying close to the first tee.

With a warm climate, nearby beaches and several other excellent Murcia golf courses within driving distance, Mar Menor is easy to build into a longer Spanish golf escape. About The Area

Alicante is one of the Costa Blanca’s strongest all-round golf destinations, combining Mediterranean coastline, vibrant city atmosphere and easy access to a dense cluster of championship courses. With its international airport just minutes from the centre, it’s particularly convenient for short breaks and long weekends, making it a firm favourite with UK golfers.

The city’s flagship venue is Alicante Golf, designed by Seve Ballesteros and located just outside the city centre. Known for its wide fairways, strategic water hazards and large greens, it offers a balanced test suitable for mixed-ability groups. Inland, Font del Llop Golf Resort provides a more modern championship feel, with rolling terrain and panoramic mountain views. For those seeking a premium experience, Las Colinas Golf & Country Club, around 45 minutes south, consistently ranks among Spain’s top courses, delivering immaculate conditioning and a more secluded, tournament-style challenge.

Golf in this part of Spain benefits from over 300 days of sunshine annually. Fairways tend to play firm, greens are reliable and rounds are typically relaxed in pace. The most comfortable playing months are March–June and September–November, avoiding the height of summer heat while enjoying excellent course conditions.

Away from the fairways, Alicante’s marina and Explanada promenade provide lively evening options. Tapas bars and seafood restaurants line the Old Town, while the hilltop Castillo de Santa Bárbara offers sweeping coastal views. Nearby beaches such as Playa del Postiguet allow for easy post-round relaxation, and the surrounding Vinalopó wine region adds vineyard visits to the itinerary.

For golfers seeking convenience, reliable sunshine and strong course variety within a vibrant Mediterranean city setting, Alicante delivers one of the Costa Blanca’s most accessible and well-rounded golf escapes.
