Buenavista Golf

Buenavista del Norte

average rating is 4 out of 5

Buenavista Golf sits where Tenerife’s north-western landscape meets the Atlantic, with the Teno mountains rising behind the course and several holes pressed towards the coast. Severiano Ballesteros designed the 18-hole layout to use that setting rather than overwhelm it. The result is a round defined by ocean exposure, volcanic terrain and changing wind, close to the adults-only Hacienda del Conde hotel in Buenavista del Norte.

The par-72 course extends to approximately 6,150 metres and has an unusual balance of six par threes, six par fours and six par fives. That distribution prevents the round from settling into a predictable rhythm. Scoring chances arrive on the shorter holes, but the longer par threes and changing directions demand sound club selection, particularly when the Atlantic breeze is moving across the property.

Ballesteros kept the natural contours prominent. Wider landing areas can encourage an attacking drive, yet position remains important because water, bunkers and angled greens often favour one side. Some holes run so close to the cliff edge that the target appears to merge with the ocean. The sensation is spectacular, although the practical challenge is simple: commit to the shot, allow for the wind and avoid chasing a heroic line when the safer side still offers a workable approach.

A central lake and waterfalls bring a different water feature into the inland section. The clubhouse occupies raised ground near the middle of the course, giving its terrace broad views across the holes and making it an appealing place to pause after play. Practice and visitor facilities are close at hand, while current tee-time conditions and any handicap requirements should be checked when the round is booked.

The course is remote from Tenerife’s main southern golf cluster, which is precisely why many golfers remember it. The drive reveals another side of the island, passing towards greener country and the dramatic Teno landscape. Staying beside the course at Hacienda del Conde removes the need to repeat that journey and adds pools, spa facilities and adult-focused accommodation.

Buenavista suits golfers who value scenery and variety as highly as championship length. It can anchor a relaxed one-centre break or provide a memorable full-day excursion from elsewhere on Tenerife, provided transfer time is allowed. The mild local climate also gives the course appeal beyond the main summer season.
