Benamor Golf

Tavira

average rating is 4 out of 5

Located in Conceição de Tavira, just a few kilometres east of the historic city of Tavira, Benamor Golf is a relaxed and scenic 18-hole course in the eastern Algarve. It offers a quieter alternative to the busier central Algarve golf hubs, making it a strong choice for golfers staying around Tavira, Cabanas, Monte Gordo or the wider Ria Formosa area.

The course has strong links to Sir Henry Cotton, who was invited by the Martins Dias family to create the original concept for the layout. Benamor was later completed in spring 2000 and has developed a reputation as an enjoyable, accessible course with a friendly atmosphere and beautiful natural surroundings.

The 18-hole, par-71 layout is not overly long, but it still asks for accuracy, especially with established trees, gentle undulations and carefully placed hazards shaping many of the holes. One of its biggest appeals is the setting, with views towards the Atlantic Ocean to the south and the Serra do Caldeirão hills to the north.

Facilities include a clubhouse, restaurant, reception and pro shop, equipment rental and practice areas. The driving range includes covered mats, grass practice areas, target flags, distance markers, plus chipping, pitching and bunker practice, which makes it useful for a warm-up before the round.

For UK golfers, Benamor works particularly well as part of an eastern Algarve itinerary, pairing naturally with nearby courses such as Quinta da Ria, Quinta de Cima and Monte Rei. It is ideal for a relaxed Portugal golf holiday with sunshine, coastal towns, good food and easier access from Faro Airport than many golfers expect.

About The Area

Vila Nova de Cacela is a brilliant Eastern Algarve base for a golf holiday, especially for golfers who want quieter surroundings than Vilamoura or Albufeira, but still want excellent courses, beaches and sunshine. It sits close to Cacela Velha, the Ria Formosa and the Spanish border, giving the area a more peaceful, authentic feel than the busier central Algarve.

The big golf draw is Quinta da Ria, set within the Ria Formosa Natural Park. The course is an 18-hole, par-72 layout with Atlantic Ocean and Cacela Velha Beach views, plus strategically placed bunkers and water hazards. Next door, Quinta de Cima adds a more demanding championship-style test, also an 18-hole layout set among lakes, streams, trees and open Algarve landscapes.

Away from golf, this part of the Algarve is made for slower, scenic exploring. Golfers can visit Praia de Cacela Velha, the fortress, the church and viewpoints around Cacela Velha, while nearby Tavira offers historic streets, riverside restaurants, boat trips and access to Ria Formosa islands. The area is also good for cycling, birdwatching, seafood, beach days and day trips to Vila Real de Santo António or across to Spain.

For Hashtag Golf Travel customers, Vila Nova de Cacela works best as a quieter Algarve golf holiday, a winter-sun escape, or a relaxed coastal golf break with strong courses and excellent off-course scenery.
