Palmares Ocean Living & Golf is one of our favourite places to stay on Portugal’s western Algarve, combining boutique accommodation, spectacular Atlantic views and 27 holes of golf in a wonderfully peaceful setting. Positioned above Meia Praia near Lagos, the resort looks across the Bay of Lagos and the Alvor Estuary, giving you coastal scenery from almost everywhere you turn.

There are two main accommodation options, depending on how you want to enjoy your golf holiday. Palmares Beach House Hotel is an intimate adults-friendly boutique hotel with just 20 rooms, including two suites. Every room has been designed to make the most of the surroundings, with spacious balconies and panoramic views across Meia Praia and Lagos Bay. The hotel also has a saltwater swimming pool, making it a brilliant place to relax after your round.

For golfers wanting more space and independence, the Palmares Signature Apartments are an excellent alternative. There are 37 contemporary apartments with one, two or three bedrooms, each fully equipped with a kitchen, generous living areas and a private balcony. They sit alongside the 10th hole and around 700 metres from the beach, making them particularly good for groups, couples planning a longer stay or anyone who prefers the flexibility of apartment-style accommodation.

Golf is naturally at the heart of the resort. Palmares Golf offers three nine-hole loops – Alvor, Lagos and Praia – designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. The different combinations take you from rolling parkland towards the coastal dunes, with the Atlantic Ocean appearing throughout the round. Having 27 holes on site means you can comfortably play several times during your stay without every round feeling the same.

The modern clubhouse is another highlight for us. Positioned between Lagos Bay and the Alvor Estuary, its large windows and terrace provide fantastic views across the golf course and ocean. The Clubhouse Restaurant is ideal for breakfast, lunch or a post-round drink, while the wider resort dining experience places a strong emphasis on Mediterranean and Portuguese flavours.

When you want a day away from golf, the four-kilometre Meia Praia beach is right beside the resort, while the historic centre of Lagos is only around ten minutes away. Restaurants, marina life, boat trips, dramatic coastal cliffs and some of the Algarve’s best beaches are all within easy reach.
