Quinta do Vale Golf Resort
Castro Marim
Quinta do Vale Golf Resort offers a distinctive championship golf experience in the peaceful eastern Algarve, close to Castro Marim and the Spanish border. Set among rolling valleys and hillsides overlooking the Guadiana River, the course combines memorable scenery with a strategic layout created by legendary Spanish golfer Severiano Ballesteros.
Opened in 2008, the 18-hole, par-72 course measures 6,216 metres from the championship tees. Its unusual configuration features six par threes, six par fours and six par fives, creating plenty of variety throughout the round. Multiple teeing options also allow golfers to choose a suitable challenge for their ability.
The two loops have noticeably different characters. Natural lagoons dominate much of the front nine, placing a premium on careful club selection and confident approach play. The back nine moves onto higher ground, providing superb views across the valley, the Guadiana River and the bridge connecting Portugal with neighbouring Spain.
Generous fairways make the course approachable for holiday golfers, but doglegs, sloping greens, bunkers and frequent water hazards mean good course management remains essential. The par-five seventh is a particularly exciting risk-and-reward hole, while the short 16th demands an accurate tee shot to a green protected by water and sand. The downhill 18th provides a dramatic finish, with a lake guarding the green and wonderful views from the tee.
After golf, players can relax at the clubhouse or explore the quieter side of the Algarve. Castro Marim is known for its historic castle, salt pans and protected marshlands, which can be explored on foot or by boat. Vila Real de Santo António offers riverside restaurants and attractive streets, while the long sandy beaches around Monte Gordo and Santo António are ideal for a relaxing afternoon by the sea.
