Eurotel Altura

Altura

average rating is 4 out of 5

Eurotel Altura, now presented as Ozadi Altura Beach Resort, is a four-star beachfront hotel in the Eastern Algarve. Set directly behind the dunes of Altura Beach, the hotel combines Atlantic views with a quieter atmosphere than the Algarve’s larger resorts. Its location close to Tavira, Castro Marim and the Spanish border makes it an excellent base for an Eastern Algarve golf holiday.

The hotel has 135 rooms and suites, including Standard, Superior, Premium and family-friendly options. Every room has a private balcony with views towards the sea, landscaped gardens or outdoor swimming pool. The décor uses soft colours inspired by the sand dunes, while renovated Premium rooms add upgraded amenities, furnished balconies, robes and slippers.

Guests have direct access to Altura Beach through the hotel gardens, making it easy to move between the pool, beach and accommodation throughout the day. The long sandy shoreline is particularly attractive for morning walks, relaxed afternoons and days away from the golf course. The hotel also operates a beach concession with sun loungers and food and drink facilities.

Dining options include buffet meals with show cooking at the Terrace restaurant, lighter lunches and drinks beside the outdoor pool, and the UCA restaurant overlooking Altura Beach. The beachfront setting at UCA makes it a particularly appealing choice for a relaxed lunch or dinner after golf.

Leisure facilities include a large outdoor swimming pool with a separate children’s area, tennis, mini-golf, gardens, a children’s club and a playground. The wellness centre has a heated hydrotherapy pool, hammam with chromotherapy, aromatic shower, relaxation areas and treatment rooms. Massages and Thalgo spa treatments are available, while the hotel also provides a 100-square-metre gym.

Eurotel Altura is well positioned for some of the best golf courses in the Eastern Algarve. Quinta da Ria and Quinta de Cima are close by, while Benamor Golf, Castro Marim Golfe, Quinta do Vale and Monte Rei Golf & Country Club can all be included within a varied golf itinerary. The hotel’s location allows groups to experience coastal, parkland and championship resort golf without relying on long daily transfers.

There is also plenty to explore away from the fairways. Tavira offers cobbled streets, riverside restaurants and historic churches, while Castro Marim is known for its castle, salt marshes and views towards Spain. Vila Real de Santo António sits beside the Guadiana River, and the Spanish town of Ayamonte can be reached easily across the border.

At Hashtag Golf Travel, we recommend Eurotel Altura for golfers who want to combine several excellent courses with a proper beach holiday. Its sea-facing rooms, direct beach access and broad range of leisure facilities make it especially suitable for couples, mixed golf groups and families. We particularly like it as a base for playing Quinta da Ria, Quinta de Cima and Monte Rei while still having the beach waiting at the end of the day.

About The Area

Altura sits in the quieter eastern Algarve, close to the Spanish border, offering golfers a more relaxed and spacious alternative to the busier central Algarve resorts. With long sandy beaches, flat terrain and easy access to several highly regarded championship courses, it’s particularly well suited to sociable group trips and winter sun escapes.

One of the region’s flagship venues is Monte Rei Golf & Country Club, widely considered the Algarve’s premier course. Designed by Jack Nicklaus, its North Course delivers immaculate conditioning, dramatic elevation changes and strategic bunkering that demands precise positioning. Service levels are exceptional, making it a standout experience. Closer to Altura, Quinta da Ria Golf Course and Quinta de Cima Golf Course provide contrasting parkland-style layouts set within the Ria Formosa Natural Park, offering flatter, more forgiving terrain but still requiring accuracy into well-protected greens. Just across the border, Spain’s Isla Canela Golf adds further variety for cross-border itineraries.

Golf in this part of the Algarve benefits from firm fairways, reliable greens and a generally relaxed pace of play. The eastern Algarve tends to feel less commercialised, with courses often quieter and more spread out.

Off the course, Altura’s wide beach is perfect for post-round walks, and the nearby town of Vila Real de Santo António offers riverside dining along the Guadiana. Fresh seafood, grilled sardines and regional wines define the local cuisine. The Ria Formosa lagoon system provides scenic cycling and nature trails for rest days.

The prime months are March–June and September–November, while winter also offers dependable sunshine. For golfers seeking premium Algarve golf with a calmer atmosphere and easy access to both Portugal and Spain, Altura delivers quality without the crowds.
