Haagse Golfvereniging Leeuwenbergh
The Hague
Located between The Hague and Leidschendam, Haagse Golfvereniging Leeuwenbergh offers a surprisingly peaceful golf experience close to the city. The course sits between the A4 motorway and the Vliet canal, in a quiet pocket of greenery that feels more secluded than its urban-edge location suggests.
The 18-hole course was designed by Dutch architect Gerard Jol and opened in 1988. It is a mature par-71 parkland layout, with gently undulating terrain created partly from the earthworks used to form the course’s water features. Since 2014, several holes have been adapted or rebuilt, giving the layout more variety and challenge.
Water hazards, shaped fairways and well-positioned bunkers all play a role, so accuracy and course management matter more than simply hitting long. The course is technical enough to keep stronger golfers interested, but still playable for a wide range of abilities. Practice facilities include a covered and floodlit driving range, putting green, short game areas and practice bunkers.
Leeuwenbergh is also GEO Certified, reflecting its work around sustainability and nature-focused course management. That gives it an added point of difference for golf travellers looking for responsible, well-kept venues near The Hague.

About The Area
The Hague is one of the Netherlands’ best city-and-coast golf bases, combining refined culture, North Sea beaches and access to some of the country’s strongest courses. It feels more relaxed than Amsterdam but still offers brilliant restaurants, museums, shopping and seaside atmosphere, making it a smart choice for golfers who want more than just the round.
The standout nearby venue is Koninklijke Haagsche Golf & Country Club, often known as Royal Hague, located in the dunes at Wassenaar. Founded in 1893, it is the oldest golf club in the Netherlands and sits among natural dune terrain, giving it a classic Dutch links-style feel. The course is widely regarded as one of the country’s finest, with firm fairways, elevation changes, heather, dunes and wind all shaping the challenge.
Closer to the city, Haagse Golfvereniging Leeuwenbergh offers an 18-hole course with good practice facilities, including a covered and illuminated driving range, short-game areas and putting greens. It gives golfers a more accessible local option while still providing a proper test.
Golf around The Hague is best from April to October, with late spring through early autumn giving the most reliable weather and longer daylight. Coastal winds can play a big part, especially on dune and seaside layouts, so controlled ball flight and course management matter.
Off the course, The Hague is excellent. The city is home to the Mauritshuis, the Binnenhof area and easy access to Scheveningen Beach, giving you art, history and beach life in one trip. The Mauritshuis also positions The Hague as a strong day-trip city with shopping, terraces, nature and culture all close together.
For golfers seeking elite Dutch golf, coastal scenery and a polished city-break feel, The Hague is one of the Netherlands’ most complete and enjoyable golf destinations.
