Two 18-hole parkland courses share the estate at Roganstown Hotel & Country Club, giving golfers a useful choice only around 10km by road from Dublin Airport. The Roganstown Championship Course and Swords Open Golf Course begin close to one another and are managed from the same golf operation, yet their contrasting landforms make a two-round stay more varied than simply replaying one layout.

Roganstown was designed by Irish Ryder Cup player Christy O’Connor Jnr. Mature estate scenery and meandering water give the course its identity, asking players to think about position rather than swing freely at every drive. Hazards frame several landing areas and approaches, but the layout uses different tee positions to remain enjoyable for a broad range of handicaps. Choosing a conservative line can leave a longer next shot; taking on the water may create the better angle.

Swords Open is flatter and more immediately accessible. The Broadmeadow River passes through the course and supplies many of its strategic water features. Because the terrain is less undulating, the main decisions come from direction, distance and avoiding the wrong side of the fairway. It is a sensible companion round for a mixed group, while still requiring accurate shots when the river and associated hazards close in.

Golf is available from sunrise to sunset under the club’s normal arrangements, although tee times, seasonal conditions and any visitor requirements should be confirmed for the intended dates. Playing both courses removes unnecessary transfers and allows the group to keep a relaxed schedule. It also gives golfers a second opportunity if Irish weather disrupts the original plan. That flexibility is valuable on a short trip where a lost afternoon would otherwise remove half the golf.

The adjoining hotel makes the set-up particularly practical. Its 52 rooms include modern categories and three period rooms in the Georgian house, while O’Callaghan’s Bar & Patio provides an obvious meeting point after the round. An indoor pool, Jacuzzi, sauna, steam room, gym and spa treatments add recovery options, and central Dublin or Malahide can be reached for a change of scene.

Roganstown and Swords work best for an airport-friendly golf break, the beginning or end of an Irish tour, or a group that prefers two on-site rounds to daily coach journeys.
