Castle Dargan Golf Course offers an enjoyable parkland challenge within the peaceful surroundings of Castle Dargan Estate in County Sligo. Mature woodland, natural lakes, streams, historic stone walls and the ruins of the old castle give the course a strong sense of place, making it very different from the traditional links courses found elsewhere along Ireland’s north-west coast.

The 18-hole, par-72 layout was designed by former Open champion Darren Clarke, working with Irish golf architect Patrick Merrigan. Measuring approximately 6,750 yards from the back tees, the course follows the natural rises and falls of the 170-acre estate rather than forcing its way across the landscape. Several tee options allow golfers to choose a suitable challenge, making Castle Dargan enjoyable for mixed-handicap groups as well as more experienced players.

Water, mature trees and carefully positioned hazards reward sensible course management. The short downhill par-three 3rd is one of the most memorable holes, with castle ruins and a mature beech tree helping to frame the approach to its wide but shallow green. The closing stretch provides a demanding finish, including three substantial par fours. The 16th plays towards the ruins of Castle Dargan before the final two holes lead golfers back towards the hotel.

Practice facilities include an eight-bay driving range, a putting green and a dedicated short-game area. Buggies, trolleys and hire clubs are also available, while both resort residents and visiting golfers can book tee times.

Castle Dargan works particularly well as part of a County Sligo golf holiday. Staying on the estate keeps the round wonderfully convenient, while Sligo town and several celebrated links courses are within reach for golfers planning a longer itinerary.
