Adare Manor Golf Club

Limerick

average rating is 5 out of 5

Adare Manor Golf Club offers an atmospheric round through the historic parkland surrounding the village of Adare. Often referred to as the Old Course, this welcoming 18-hole layout is separate from The Golf Course at Adare Manor, which will host the 2027 Ryder Cup.

The par-69 course measures 5,807 yards, making accuracy and thoughtful course management more important than distance alone. Mature trees frame the fairways and can quickly punish misplaced drives, while the compact layout presents plenty of opportunities for golfers who keep their ball in play. Its manageable length makes it suitable for mixed-handicap groups, although the tree-lined holes still provide a serious challenge.

What makes Adare Manor Golf Club especially memorable is its historic setting. The remains of the 13th-century Desmond Castle provide a striking backdrop to the first and 15th greens, while the ruins of a 15th-century Franciscan Abbey stand near the centre of the course. The signature 14th is a 195-yard par three, played slightly uphill between mature trees with the old abbey forming part of the scenery.

Visitors also have access to a practice green, practice-net area, equipment hire and professional tuition by arrangement. The clubhouse provides food and refreshments after the round, while Adare’s traditional pubs, restaurants, thatched cottages and historic buildings are close by.

For golfers exploring County Limerick or building a wider golf tour through southwest Ireland, Adare Manor Golf Club offers an accessible and characterful alternative to the region’s larger resort and links courses.

About The Area

Newmarket-on-Fergus is a superb choice for golfers who want an Ireland golf holiday with castle luxury, parkland golf and easy access to County Clare. Set close to Shannon Airport, it is one of the most convenient west of Ireland golf bases for UK travellers, especially if you want to spend less time transferring and more time enjoying the trip. Shannon Airport is around 13 km from Dromoland Castle, making arrival wonderfully straightforward.

The main draw is Dromoland Castle Golf & Country Club, an 18-hole, par-72 championship course designed by Ron Kirby and JB Carr. Set across the Dromoland Castle estate, the course measures 6,824 yards and combines gentle hills, mature trees and water hazards, giving golfers a scenic but thoughtful parkland challenge.

Away from the fairways, Dromoland Castle adds real occasion to the holiday. The 16th-century castle sits in County Clare on the west coast of Ireland, surrounded by hundreds of acres of parkland and woodland, with a luxury hotel setting that suits couples, groups and special golf breaks beautifully.

Newmarket-on-Fergus also works well as part of a wider Irish golf itinerary. You can head towards Lahinch, Doonbeg, the Cliffs of Moher, Limerick or the Wild Atlantic Way, all while keeping a peaceful base in Clare. For UK golfers, it is ideal for a tailor-made Ireland golf break with comfort, convenience and a proper sense of place.
