About The Area

Kenmare is a wonderfully scenic base for a golf holiday in south-west Ireland, combining two characterful local courses with colourful streets, welcoming pubs and dramatic mountain and coastal landscapes. The town sits beside Kenmare Bay where the Ring of Kerry meets the Ring of Beara, making it a strong choice for golfers who want memorable rounds without sacrificing the wider Irish experience. Kerry Airport is the nearest airport, approximately 50 kilometres away by road, although hiring a car is recommended for exploring the surrounding region.

Kenmare Golf Club is an attractive 18-hole course positioned close to the town centre beside the River Roughty Estuary. Its tree-lined parkland holes, waterside setting and views towards the Caha Mountains create a peaceful round that feels closely connected to the landscape. The convenient location also means golfers can return to Kenmare’s restaurants and pubs without a lengthy transfer.

A few miles west of town, Ring of Kerry Golf Club provides a more elevated and dramatic challenge. Designed by Eddie Hackett and Ron Kirby, the 18-hole layout blends heathland and parkland features across varied terrain, with mature trees, changing elevations and sweeping views over Kenmare Bay and the Caha Mountains. Together, the two local courses provide contrasting rounds within a short distance of one another.

Away from golf, Kenmare is known for its independent shops, lively cafés and excellent food scene. Visitors can explore the town’s ancient stone circle, enjoy traditional music or try seafood drawn from the surrounding Atlantic waters. Its position also makes it easy to spend a day driving the Ring of Kerry, visiting Killarney National Park or following the quieter roads of the Beara Peninsula.

We particularly recommend Kenmare from late spring to early autumn, when longer daylight hours provide more time for golf, sightseeing and scenic drives. It is ideal for couples and groups seeking traditional Irish hospitality, beautiful landscapes and a relaxed alternative to a busier resort-based golf break.
