Great National Ballykisteen Golf Hotel

Ballykisteen

average rating is 4 out of 5

Great National Ballykisteen Golf Hotel is a four-star golf and leisure resort at Limerick Junction in County Tipperary. Set across 170 acres beneath the Galtee Mountains, the hotel combines peaceful Irish countryside with excellent transport connections. Limerick City is around 30 minutes away, while Limerick Junction railway station is approximately one kilometre from the hotel.

The hotel has 40 bright and spacious bedrooms, including Classic Rooms, Club Rooms, Family Rooms and Junior Suites. Accommodation includes comfortable beds, en-suite bathrooms, complimentary Wi-Fi, tea and coffee facilities and room service. Selected Club Rooms and Junior Suites overlook Ballykisteen Golf Course, making them especially appealing for golfers who enjoy waking up beside the fairways.

Classic Rooms provide a comfortable base for shorter breaks, while Family Rooms can accommodate two adults and two children. Club Rooms add an upgraded feel and golf-course views, while the larger Junior Suites feature king-size beds, private seating areas and panoramic views across the resort. This variety makes the hotel suitable for couples, societies, families and mixed groups travelling together.

Dining is centred around Junction One Bar and Junction One Restaurant. The bar offers coffee, pastries, light lunches, evening meals and drinks in a relaxed setting, while the restaurant serves dishes inspired by local Tipperary produce. Both enjoy views across the golf course and towards the Galtee Mountains, with outdoor terrace seating available during warmer weather.

The hotel’s leisure centre is ideal for relaxing after a round. Facilities include a 20-metre indoor swimming pool, Jacuzzi, sauna, steam room and fully equipped gym. Hotel residents receive access to the leisure facilities during their stay, providing an easy way to recover tired muscles or spend a quieter afternoon away from the course.

Ballykisteen also has five dedicated beauty and treatment rooms offering massages, facials and other wellness treatments. One of its most unusual features is floatation therapy, which the hotel describes as a unique offering among Irish hotel spas. Treatments should be reserved in advance, particularly for golf groups planning to use the spa at similar times.

Golfers have an 18-hole, par-72 championship parkland course directly beside the hotel. Designed by former Ryder Cup player Des Smyth, Ballykisteen features tree-lined fairways, water hazards and carefully maintained greens, with the Galtee Mountains providing an attractive backdrop. The club also welcomes visiting groups and societies, making stay-and-play arrangements straightforward.

Practice facilities include a covered driving range, putting green, chipping area and access to PGA professional tuition. The professional shop is available for golfing essentials, while accommodation packages can combine the hotel, breakfast and rounds on the championship course. Everything is located within the same resort, removing the need for morning transfers before golf.

Ballykisteen is also well placed for a wider Tipperary and Limerick golf holiday. Tipperary Golf Club is around 12 minutes away, while Castletroy and Ballyneety can be reached in approximately 30 minutes. Adare Manor is around 45 minutes from the hotel, allowing golfers to combine Ballykisteen with one of Ireland’s most celebrated championship venues.

There is plenty to explore away from the fairways. The Glen of Aherlow is around 20 minutes from the hotel and offers mountain scenery and walking routes, while the historic Rock of Cashel is approximately 30 minutes away. The hotel is also directly opposite Tipperary Racecourse, adding another option for groups planning a longer stay.

At Hashtag Golf Travel, we recommend Great National Ballykisteen Golf Hotel for groups seeking an affordable and convenient Irish golf resort. The on-site course, comfortable rooms, relaxed dining and excellent leisure facilities provide everything needed for a sociable stay-and-play break. Its location near Limerick Junction also makes it easy to include within a longer itinerary through Tipperary, Limerick and Ireland’s south-west.
