About The Area

Arklow sits on Ireland’s east coast in County Wicklow, often referred to as the “Garden of Ireland.” Positioned between Dublin and Wexford, it offers golfers a scenic coastal base with access to traditional Irish links and dramatic inland landscapes. It’s a destination that combines authentic seaside golf with rolling hills and historic estates.

The town’s headline venue is Arklow Golf Club, a classic links layout founded in 1927. Set directly along the Irish Sea, the course features natural dunes, fast-running fairways and greens that demand careful distance control. Wind is a constant factor, shaping strategy and rewarding low, controlled ball flights. The routing flows seamlessly through unspoilt terrain, delivering a pure and traditional Irish links experience. Within easy reach lies The European Club, consistently ranked among Ireland’s top courses and known for its towering dunes and championship challenge. Further north, Druids Glen Golf Resort provides a contrasting inland parkland test, famously dubbed the “Augusta of Europe.”

Golf in this part of Ireland is authentic and atmospheric — firm underfoot in peak season, wind-influenced and rarely overcrowded. The prime playing months are May through September, when daylight stretches long into the evening and links conditions are at their best.

Off the course, Arklow offers traditional Irish pubs, fresh seafood and relaxed harbour views. The Wicklow Mountains National Park provides scenic drives and hiking routes, while nearby Glendalough offers monastic ruins set among lakes and valleys. Dublin is just over an hour away for city dining and nightlife.

For golfers seeking genuine Irish links, dramatic coastal scenery and easy access from Dublin, Arklow delivers classic golf in a beautifully natural setting.
