Golf Resort Achental
Munich
Golf Resort Achental is a lovely choice for UK golfers looking for a Germany golf holiday with Alpine scenery, resort comfort and a calmer feel than the usual Mediterranean golf break. Set in Grassau, in Bavaria’s Chiemgau region between Lake Chiemsee and the Kampenwand mountains, Das Achental combines an 18-hole golf course with a luxury wellness hotel, restaurants and plenty of space to unwind after a round.
The course itself was redesigned by Thomas Himmel in 2013 and has a polished, modern resort feel. Top 100 Golf Courses describes it as being south of Lake Chiemsee, while Leading Courses highlights the generous greens and tees, interesting fairways, wide lakes and mountain views. In short, it is scenic without being sleepy, with water, natural surroundings and clever shaping giving golfers enough to think about.
For practice and improvement, the resort also offers a PGA Golf Academy, driving range, simulator and pro shop, which makes it useful for groups wanting a proper golf-focused stay rather than just one round.
For UK travellers, Achental works well as a longer Bavaria golf break or a twin-centre trip with Munich, Salzburg or Lake Chiemsee. The resort is accessible via the Munich–Salzburg A8 motorway, with Salzburg Airport around 40 minutes by car and Munich Airport roughly 1 hour 20 minutes away.
With mountain views, spa facilities, good food and a peaceful setting, Golf Resort Achental is ideal for golfers who want a relaxed European golf holiday with proper scenery and plenty to enjoy away from the course.

About The Area
Zell am See is a superb alpine base for an Austria golf holiday, especially for travellers who want lake views, mountain scenery and a proper summer-holiday feel around the golf. Set beside Lake Zell, with the Schmittenhöhe and Kitzsteinhorn nearby, it offers that classic Austrian mix of fresh air, scenery, smart hotels, lakeside cafés and outdoor activities. Salzburg Airport is the easiest arrival point, with Zell am See-Kaprun’s official travel information placing the region around 80 km from Salzburg Airport and around 200 km from Munich Airport.
The main golf attraction is Golfclub Zell am See-Kaprun-Saalbach, one of the strongest golf facilities in the Austrian Alps. The official tourism site describes it as the only “Leading Golf Course” with 36 holes in the Alps, while the club offers two 18-hole courses in a wide valley setting surrounded by mountain views.
Away from the fairways, Zell am See has loads of wider holiday value. Lake Zell is at the heart of the region, with swimming, sailing, surfing and boat trips available in summer, while hiking, biking and mountain trips add plenty for non-golfers or rest days. The region also promotes summer activities around the lake, mountains and Kitzsteinhorn, so it works well for couples, groups and mixed-interest travellers.
For Hashtag Golf Travel customers, Zell am See is best suited to a summer alpine golf escape, a golf-and-wellness break, or a wider Austria itinerary with Salzburg, Kitzbühel or Innsbruck. It is not a beach destination, obviously, but for clean mountain air, lake scenery and easy multi-round golf, it is a cracking option.
