Woodhall Spa Golf Club
Woodhall Spa
Set in the Lincolnshire village of Woodhall Spa, Woodhall Spa Golf Club is one of England’s most respected golf venues and home to the National Golf Centre. The club offers two courses — the world-renowned Hotchkin Course and the Bracken Course — giving golfers a brilliant mix of classic heathland golf and modern parkland-style challenge.
The Hotchkin Course is the headline layout and one of the finest inland courses in the UK. Built on sandy heathland, it is known for firm-running fairways, heather, gorse, pine trees and some of the most dramatic bunkering in English golf. The course plays as a par 73 and stretches to more than 7,000 yards from the back tees, but its real defence is strategy rather than length. Accuracy, patience and smart positioning are essential, especially around the deep bunkers and subtle green complexes.
The Bracken Course provides a strong second option and a useful contrast to the Hotchkin. Designed by Donald Steel and opened in 1998, it has a more parkland feel, with generous fairways, large greens, woodland sections and strategic bunkering. It is more forgiving than the Hotchkin, but still asks for thoughtful course management and a good touch around the greens.
Facilities at Woodhall Spa are excellent, with the National Golf Centre offering a covered driving range with Toptracer technology, short-game areas, coaching, indoor swing analysis, putting facilities, buggies, caddie services and visitor-friendly golf break options. Golfers should book well in advance, as Woodhall Spa is a hugely popular venue for societies, groups and travelling golfers.
For UK golf breaks, Woodhall Spa is a proper bucket-list destination. It works well as part of a Lincolnshire golf itinerary, pairing naturally with nearby countryside, spa-town charm, RAF history, traditional pubs and the Lincolnshire coast.

About The Area
Woodhall Spa is one of England’s standout golf destinations and a proper “go for the golf” location. The headline is Woodhall Spa Golf Club, home to the National Golf Centre, with two courses: The Hotchkin and The Bracken. The club describes the Hotchkin as ranked 74th in the world by Golf.com, and it has also been refurbished by architect Tom Doak.
The Hotchkin is the main reason many golfers travel here. Golf Monthly ranks it 12th in the UK & Ireland Top 100 for 2025/26, highlighting its classic heathland character, strategic bunkering, heather-lined fairways and strong architectural appeal. The Bracken adds variety, giving groups a second round without needing to leave the village.
Woodhall Spa is also good fun away from the course. Kinema in the Woods is the lovely local curveball: a historic woodland cinema with outdoor screenings and a nostalgic setting. Jubilee Park adds a heated 33-metre outdoor pool, swimming sessions and open-air leisure, which is a brilliant post-round option in warmer months.
There is also a strong wartime heritage angle. Visit Lincolnshire highlights the Petwood Hotel, formerly the officers’ mess for the Dambusters, plus the Dambusters Memorial, Cottage Museum and peaceful village walks.
For Hashtag Golf Travel customers, Woodhall Spa is ideal for a serious golf break, society trip or bucket-list English golf weekend. It is quieter than many resort towns, but that is the charm: great golf, village character, history, woodland walks and a few quirky extras.
