Hill Valley Golf Club
Whitchurch
Set in the North Shropshire countryside near Whitchurch, Hill Valley Golf Club forms part of Hill Valley Hotel, Golf & Spa, giving golfers a complete stay-and-play venue with hotel accommodation, spa, leisure facilities, restaurant, bar and two on-site golf courses. The resort sits close to the A41 and A49, around half a mile from Whitchurch town centre, making it a practical choice for UK golf breaks, societies and group trips.
The golf offering centres on two courses: the Emerald Championship Course and the Sapphire Course. Both were designed by Peter Alliss and Dave Thomas in 1975, giving the venue a strong British golf design pedigree. The Emerald is the main championship test, measuring 6,714 yards as a par-73 layout, with rolling fairways, natural water hazards, strategic bunkering and an impressive finishing hole where water comes into play from both the tee and approach.
The Sapphire Course is shorter at 4,801 yards and plays as a par-66, but it should not be dismissed as simply easy holiday golf. Its defence comes from positioning, undulation and short-game control, making it useful for beginners, mixed-ability groups or golfers wanting a lighter second round during a break.
Away from the fairways, Hill Valley offers a pro shop, buggies, hotel rooms, spa treatments, swimming pool, gym, free parking, EV charging and dining at Borders Restaurant. The local area also adds extra appeal, with Whitchurch, Chester, Shrewsbury, Market Drayton and the Shropshire countryside all within reach.
For UK golfers, Hill Valley is a strong choice for a relaxed Shropshire golf break with two contrasting courses, easy road access and everything needed for a comfortable stay on site.

About The Area
Whitchurch in Shropshire is a lovely base for golfers who want a relaxed countryside golf break with a proper market-town feel. It works well for couples, small groups and society trips looking for golf, good food, easy walks and a slower pace between rounds. The main golfing draw is Macdonald Hill Valley Hotel, Golf & Spa, where golfers can enjoy two Shropshire golf courses in one stay, making it a very useful base for a golf holiday in Whitchurch.
At Hashtag Golf Travel, we like Whitchurch because it gives you more than just the golf. The town has history, independent shops, pubs, restaurants and a friendly local feel, so it is easy to fill time away from the course. After golf, we would suggest a walk around the town centre, a relaxed drink in a traditional pub or a visit to the canal area for something gentler after 18 holes.
For groups staying a little longer, Alderford Lake is a great extra recommendation, especially in warmer months. It adds paddleboarding, lakeside walks, open-water swimming and outdoor activities into the trip, which is perfect if some of the group want more than golf.
Our tip: choose Whitchurch if you want a Shropshire golf break that feels peaceful, easy and personal. It is not a loud nightlife destination, but for golfers who like countryside, comfort, good food and two-course golf nearby, it works really well.
