The historic Hawkstone Course is the older of the two layouts. Designed by renowned golf architect James Braid, it has welcomed golfers since 1920 and plays to a par of 72 over 6,497 yards. The course offers a traditional parkland experience, with tree-lined fairways weaving through the estate beneath the striking cliffs and caves of the Follies. Natural features form an important part of the layout, while the surrounding landscape gives many holes a distinctive character.
Among the highlights are the 10th and 12th holes, which Hawkstone identifies as two of the course's signature holes. Throughout the round, golfers are rewarded for accurate positioning and sensible course management, with mature trees and the natural contours of the land helping to create a varied test rather than one based purely on distance.
The Championship Course provides a noticeably different challenge. Designed by former Ryder Cup player Brian Huggett and opened in 1997, it has a more modern feel, with water hazards, large gently undulating greens and a varied collection of holes. The course is overlooked by an 18th-century windmill, one of its most recognisable features, and has previously hosted professional golf events. Practice facilities add further appeal for groups spending several days at Hawkstone Park. After a round, Lyles Bar overlooks the 18th green of the Hawkstone Course and provides a convenient place for golfers to meet for food or drinks.
