About The Area
Welwyn Garden City is a very practical Hertfordshire base for a UK golf break, especially for golfers who want easy airport access, London nearby and a greener, more relaxed feel than staying in the capital. It is one of England’s famous planned garden cities, so the town has wide boulevards, formal green spaces, shopping, cafés and good rail links, making it a simple short-break base rather than a full resort destination. Great Northern also highlights how walkable the town centre is, with the station, shops, cafés and central Parkway all close together.
The main local option is Welwyn Garden City Golf Club, based at Mannicotts on High Oaks Road. It gives golfers a convenient town-based round, with the club’s own course guide showing a varied 18-hole layout of par 3s, par 4s and par 5s.
For extra golf nearby, Mill Green Golf Club is another useful choice, based on Gypsy Lane in Welwyn Garden City. It positions itself as a premier local golf destination and gives visiting golfers another nearby option without needing a long transfer.
Away from golf, Stanborough Park is the easy local highlight. It is a Green Flag park on the edge of Welwyn Garden City, with two lakes across 126 acres, and activities including boating, fishing, paddleboarding, archery and walking.
For Hashtag Golf Travel customers, Welwyn Garden City works best as a low-fuss Hertfordshire golf weekend, a society base, or a practical London-edge golf stop. It is not a luxury golf resort, but for nearby courses, airport access, green space and easy links into London, it does the job neatly.
