About The Area

Wedmore is a great Somerset base for golfers who like countryside golf, village charm and plenty of interesting places nearby. It works especially well for a relaxed golf break where the trip is about more than just the scorecard. Think panoramic views, welcoming pubs, nearby walking routes and easy access to some of Somerset’s best-known attractions.

The key local course is Isle of Wedmore Golf Club, which sits close to the village and is known as one of Somerset’s friendliest clubs. Founded in 1992, it is around 15 minutes from Junction 22 of the M5, making it easy for visiting golfers, societies and small groups. The setting is a big part of the appeal, with views across the Mendip Hills, Cheddar Valley, Glastonbury Tor and the Somerset Levels.

Off the course, Wedmore is well placed for a proper Somerset golf holiday. We would recommend a trip to Cheddar Gorge and Caves, one of the most dramatic natural landmarks in the Mendip Hills, with cliffs, caves, walks and adventure activities. The wider Mendip Hills area is also excellent for walking, views and countryside exploring between rounds.

Wedmore itself adds the quieter side of the trip, with independent shops, village pubs and a relaxed local feel. Our tip: use Wedmore for a Somerset golf break that mixes friendly golf, countryside scenery and easy day trips to Cheddar, Wells, Glastonbury and the Mendips.
