About The Area
Sutton Coldfield is a strong Midlands base for a UK golf break, especially for golfers who want good course choice, easy road access and the option of Birmingham nearby for food, nightlife and extra activities. Birmingham Airport is the closest major airport, listed around 15 miles from Sutton Coldfield, with East Midlands also within reach.
The headline golf option is The Belfry Hotel & Resort, located near Birmingham and Sutton Coldfield. It is one of England’s best-known golf resorts, home to the Brabazon, PGA National and Derby courses, and has hosted the Ryder Cup four times as well as the British Masters. The Brabazon and PGA National are both par-72 courses, giving golfers a proper championship-style break without needing to travel far.
For a more local round, Sutton Coldfield Golf Club is another excellent option. The club describes its course as a fast-draining heathland layout, and its course history notes that it was originally established in 1893 before later work by Dr Alister MacKenzie. Moor Hall Golf Club is also based in Four Oaks, Sutton Coldfield, and is useful for visitors, societies and corporate golf days.
Away from golf, Sutton Park is the big draw. Birmingham City Council describes it as a 2,400-acre National Nature Reserve, six miles north of Birmingham city centre and one of Europe’s largest urban parks. That gives the area a proper outdoorsy side, with walking, cycling and wide open green space close to the town.
For golf holidays, Sutton Coldfield works best as a Midlands golf weekend, society trip, corporate golf break or Belfry-led stay-and-play escape. It is practical rather than “holiday resort” pretty, but the golf access is genuinely strong.
