About The Area
Campden, usually known as Chipping Campden, is one of the Cotswolds’ most attractive bases for a golf break, with honey-coloured stone buildings, a historic high street and easy access to classic countryside courses. It works especially well for golfers who want a slower, scenic stay rather than a big resort setup — think good pubs, pretty villages, rolling views and relaxed rounds in proper English countryside.
The nearest strong golf option is Broadway Golf Club, positioned between Broadway and Chipping Campden. The club describes its setting between two of the Cotswolds’ most beautiful towns, with nearby villages such as Snowshill and Stanton adding to the area’s charm. For golfers, it offers exactly the kind of Cotswold experience people come for: elevated views, changing lies, exposed sections where the wind matters and a course that rewards tidy positioning rather than just distance.
For more variety, Naunton Downs Golf Club is another good option in the wider Cotswolds. It is open to visitors, welcomes society days and describes itself as a stunning Cotswolds golf club with year-round playability. Further afield, Cotswolds Hotel & Spa Golf Club near Chipping Norton adds a resort-style option, with a par-72 parkland layout and Cotswold countryside views.
Golf around Campden is best from April to October, with late spring and early autumn especially good for comfortable temperatures and better course conditions.
Off the course, Chipping Campden has loads of gentle Cotswold appeal. It is the official start of the Cotswold Way, and the town is known for Court Barn Museum, historic architecture, independent shops and nearby gardens and villages. Broadway Tower, Hidcote, Stratford-upon-Avon and Cheltenham are all useful day-trip options.
For golfers seeking Cotswold scenery, relaxed countryside golf and a charming town base with plenty nearby, Campden is a beautifully placed and very easy-going golf escape.
