The Abbey Golf Course offers an enjoyable parkland round within the peaceful grounds of The Abbey Hotel Golf & Spa near Redditch. Conveniently positioned south of Birmingham, it is a strong choice for UK golf breaks, society trips and mixed-ability groups looking for golf, accommodation and leisure facilities in one easy-to-reach location.

Originally designed by respected British golf architect Donald Steel, the course has recently undergone a major £1 million redevelopment. The refreshed 18-hole, par-70 layout includes four completely new holes, two new greens and several newly constructed tee complexes. The routing has also been changed to improve the flow and pace of play while retaining the mature parkland character for which The Abbey is known.

Tree-lined fairways, natural slopes, bunkers and well-positioned water hazards ensure golfers must think carefully throughout the round. The course is slightly shorter and more accessible than its previous layout, but good positioning remains important. Two new par threes add further variety, while the ninth is now a risk-and-reward par five where confident golfers can choose whether to attack or play more cautiously. The redesigned 14th and its following downhill par three provide another memorable section late in the round.

Practice facilities include a putting green, professional shop and custom-fitting centre. The two-storey, 26-bay floodlit driving range uses Inrange ball-tracking technology, allowing golfers to measure shot data, practise with purpose or enjoy multiplayer games with their group.

After golf, players can relax in the hotel’s bar and restaurant or use the Peak Spa & Health Club, which includes an indoor swimming pool, hot tub, sauna and steam room. Nearby attractions include Coughton Court, Stratford-upon-Avon and Birmingham, providing plenty to enjoy away from the course.
