Trevose Golf Club

Padstow

average rating is 5 out of 5

Trevose Golf Club enjoys a spectacular position on the North Cornwall coast, overlooking Constantine Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. Established in 1925, the club is best known for its Championship Course, a classic links designed by renowned golf-course architect Harry Colt. Combining traditional links characteristics with dramatic coastal scenery, Trevose has developed a reputation as one of Cornwall's standout golfing destinations.

The Championship Course measures 6,948 yards from the back tees and plays to a par of 72. Colt's layout is arranged across two loops of nine, with the opening half running through the dunes and close to the coastline before the course turns further inland. Throughout the round, golfers must contend with strategically positioned bunkers, natural links rough and the ever-changing Atlantic wind, which can dramatically alter how individual holes are played from one day to the next.

The coastal holes are among Trevose's most memorable, offering extensive views across Constantine Bay and the surrounding North Cornwall landscape. While the fairways and greens can appear generous in places, the course rewards careful positioning and good course management. When the wind strengthens, club selection and the ability to control ball flight become particularly important, creating the varied challenge associated with traditional seaside golf.

Trevose has also staged a number of significant amateur and professional competitions. Its Championship Course hosted the Brabazon Trophy in 2008, the McGregor Trophy in 2012, the English Men's County Finals in 2017 and the inaugural Farmfoods European Legends Links Championship in 2019, highlighting the course's credentials as a tournament venue.

Golfers visiting Trevose also have two additional layouts to enjoy. The Headland Course is a nine-hole course designed by Peter Alliss and opened in 1993. Set above Constantine Bay, it offers a shorter and more relaxed links experience while retaining plenty of strategic interest and coastal views. There is also a nine-hole Short Course, providing an accessible option for beginners, families or golfers looking to sharpen their short game.

With three courses in one coastal setting, Trevose works particularly well as part of a Cornwall golf holiday. The Championship Course provides the main attraction, while the Headland and Short courses give travelling golfers additional opportunities to play during their stay.

About The Area

Polzeath is a superb choice for a coastal golf break in North Cornwall, combining accessible golf with Atlantic beaches, dramatic walking routes and some of the region’s finest links courses. The village sits between Pentire Head and the Camel Estuary, offering a lively seaside atmosphere during summer and a much quieter escape outside the school holidays. Cornwall Airport Newquay is around 35 kilometres away, although travelling by car is the easiest way to reach the area’s different courses and coastal villages.

The closest course is The Point at Polzeath, located between Polzeath, Rock and Daymer Bay. The resort has an 18-hole golf course, covered driving range, coaching facilities and a welcoming clubhouse, alongside self-catering accommodation, an indoor swimming pool, gym, tennis and padel courts. This makes it particularly convenient for couples, groups and families looking for more than golf alone.

A Polzeath golf holiday should also include St Enodoc Golf Club in nearby Rock. The club has two links courses among natural sand dunes beside the Camel Estuary, with views towards Padstow and the Atlantic. Golfers staying longer can travel to Trevose Golf & Country Club, where its Championship Course and shorter layouts add further variety to a North Cornwall itinerary.

Away from the fairways, Polzeath is best known for its broad sandy beach and reliable Atlantic surf. Surf lessons and equipment hire are widely available, while cafés, pubs and restaurants provide plenty of relaxed options after a round. Walkers can follow the South West Coast Path around Pentire Point and the Rumps, enjoying far-reaching coastal views and the chance to spot seals and peregrine falcons.

Nearby Rock and Daymer Bay are also worth exploring. From Rock, the passenger ferry crosses the Camel Estuary to Padstow, making it easy to add its harbour, shops and renowned food scene to the trip. We particularly recommend Polzeath in late spring or early autumn, when the coast is generally quieter but still well suited to golf, walking and time beside the sea.
