Potters Resorts Five Lakes is a five-star fully inclusive countryside resort in Essex, set within 333 acres near Tolleshunt Knights. The resort combines comfortable accommodation with dining, drinks, entertainment, leisure activities, spa treatments and on-site golf, making it a particularly interesting option for groups wanting much more than a traditional stay-and-play golf hotel. Five Lakes operates predominantly as an adults-only resort, giving it a lively but relaxed atmosphere for couples and groups.
Accommodation is split between the Hotel and Village. Hotel rooms are positioned close to the main restaurants, bars and leisure facilities, while Village rooms sit within the surrounding grounds a short walk away. Premier accommodation is included as standard, with upgrades including Premier Plus, Deluxe and Suites. Rooms are available as doubles or twins and include en-suite bathrooms, Wi-Fi, televisions, tea and coffee facilities, safes and drinks coolers. Selected upgraded rooms add balconies, countryside or golf-course views and additional lounge space.
The fully inclusive concept is one of Five Lakes' biggest attractions. Full-board dining, a wide selection of drinks, daytime activities and evening entertainment are included within the main break price. West End-style shows, live music and quizzes provide plenty to do after golf, while the resort's leisure programme includes an indoor swimming pool, sauna, archery, bowls, badminton and numerous other activities.
Golfers can add a round on the 18-hole Lakes Course, designed by former European Tour player Neil Coles. There is also a nine-hole par-three course, while the resort has recently invested significantly in its golf facilities. Spa treatments including massages, facials and other therapies can also be booked for some post-round relaxation.

About The Area
Wickford is a practical Essex base for a relaxed UK golf break, especially for golfers who want easy access to Southend, Chelmsford, Basildon, Billericay and the wider Essex countryside. It is not a resort-style destination, but it works well for a low-fuss golf weekend or society trip, with Southend Airport close by and Stansted useful for wider flight choice.
For golf, Wickford is best used as a base for nearby Essex courses rather than one headline course in the town itself. Stock Brook Manor Golf & Country Club near Billericay is one of the stronger local options, with 27 holes set in Essex countryside and a main championship layout of around 6,950 yards.
Another good option is The Burstead Golf Club in nearby Little Burstead, a parkland course designed by Patrick Tallack in 1993, set around the source of the River Crouch with rolling fields, woodland, hedgerows and water features. For more variety, Three Rivers Golf & Country Club at Cold Norton offers 36 holes across two courses, plus bar, restaurant, gym and countryside views over more than 300 acres.
Away from the fairways, Wickford has simple local appeal: parks, walks, nearby Battlesbridge, Barleylands, Basildon, Southend-on-Sea and countryside routes around the River Crouch area. Visit Essex also lists walking around Battlesbridge, including an 11.5-mile Saffron Trail route between Chelmsford and Battlesbridge, giving the area a useful outdoorsy add-on.
