Wentworth Club
London
Wentworth Club is one of England’s most prestigious golfing destinations, set within a magnificent 700-hectare estate at Virginia Water in Surrey. Home to three world-class 18-hole courses, the club combines championship history, classic English woodland scenery and exceptional playing conditions within easy reach of London and Windsor.
The famous West Course is Wentworth’s headline layout. Originally designed by Harry Colt, it winds through mature pine, oak and birch woodland, with undulating fairways, deep bunkers and carefully protected greens creating a demanding test of accuracy and course management. Rather than simply reaching for the driver, golfers must find the correct sections of the fairways to open up manageable approaches. The closing back-to-back par fives regularly produce dramatic finishes.
The West Course hosted the 1953 Ryder Cup and has been the permanent home of the BMW PGA Championship since 1984, allowing golfers to follow in the footsteps of many of the game’s greatest players.
Wentworth’s East Course was also designed by Harry Colt and offers a shorter, more intimate heathland-style experience. Its tree-lined holes and excellent collection of par threes ensure it remains challenging despite its more manageable length. The Edinburgh Course, designed by John Jacobs with input from Gary Player and Bernard Gallacher, opened in 1990 and provides another substantial woodland test where accurate driving is essential.
The Wentworth Golf Academy offers high-quality instruction and practice facilities, while the historic clubhouse provides an impressive setting for dining and post-round drinks. Wentworth is a private members’ club, so access is normally limited to members and their guests rather than standard public green-fee bookings.
Away from golf, visitors can walk around Virginia Water Lake, explore Windsor Great Park or spend time in Windsor, with its historic streets, restaurants, riverside setting and famous castle.

About The Area
Twickenham works well as a London-edge golf base, especially for golfers who want easy Heathrow access, riverside London charm and the option to build rugby into the trip. The area is best known for Twickenham Stadium, the home of English rugby, while nearby Richmond, the River Thames and leafy south-west London give visitors plenty to do away from the course. Fulwell Golf Club is especially handy for Heathrow, with the club noting local bus links from the airport area and Rome2Rio listing Heathrow to Fulwell Golf Course at around 8 miles by road.
For golf, Fulwell Golf Club and Strawberry Hill Golf Club are the most local options. Strawberry Hill is based directly in Twickenham, while Fulwell gives golfers a more established club feel close to Hampton and Teddington. The wider area also puts visitors within reach of Richmond, Hampton Court, Hounslow Heath and several Surrey/Middlesex parkland courses.
For Hashtag Golf Travel customers, Twickenham is best suited to a London golf weekend, a rugby-and-golf short break, or a practical Heathrow stopover with a round added in. It is not a resort destination, but for access, atmosphere and London add-ons, it works neatly.
